Gabriela Cruz Photography was born of necessity and passion.
It was the solution to a problem AND an answer to a higher calling.
Hi, I’m Yahozka, founder of GCP and one of the lead photographers at our Edmonton studio. I want to tell you a bit about how Gabriela Cruz Photography came to be and why it means SO much to me. When my first two boys were young I realized that I wanted to spend as much time with them as possible. My old career of travel nursing didn’t quite fit the new schedule I wanted to devote to my mom life, so I decided to dust off an old passion – photography.
Now, I’ll be honest, I never thought of myself as an artist I just knew I felt drawn to photography. I couldn’t quite explain it. I just knew it was something I needed to do.
I started out with wedding photography but something was missing. I wasn’t quite hitting the mark. Whatever that little voice inside was that called me to photography – it didn’t seem satisfied. What I noticed, though, was that every time I presented a bride with her images her face lit up. Something inside her radiated through as she looked at the way her pictures brought out the GORGEOUS self she struggled to see even though the rest of us could see it so easily just knowing her.
It dawned on me. Boudoir photography. No. Better. EMPOWERMENT BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY.
It didn’t take long before I started working one on one with women in the area, helping them strip away the literal and metaphorical layers. The layers of clothes but ALSO the layers of expectations and judgements they’d piled on over the years.
It gives me goosebumps to hear people talk about it. Seeing their transformation I feel proud of myself that I managed to help them and proud of them for the way they’ve changed their mindset. I know how hard it is. It doesn’t matter how many times people say to you that you are beautiful until you see it yourself.
I like to say that the GCP team assembled itself more so than I went out and made it. It was like the calling I felt inside spread out and the women who knew they needed to be a part of this team found ME instead of the other way around. I’m now proud to say that GCP is a team of strong, creative women dedicated to empowering others through photography.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Most amazing experience ever ! My wife and I have been married 15 years and we heard great things about GCP. Getting photos was our anniversary gift to each other , as we had never done anything like this. We were both really anxious about doing photos like this, but everyone there was very nice and easy going and made the entire day and experience amazing. Can't say enough good things about the whole experience, you truly have to experience It yourself to find out how good they are at everything. The day started off with a relaxation massage, then hair and makeup and then we chose outfits and started the photography. The session was lots of fun and they are very professional and take incredible photos. Once we finished shooting they had lunch ready for us and we ate while they prepped photos for us to choose from. Definitely will recommend Gabriela Cruz Photography to anyone we know! Thank you so much for making our 15th anniversary so memorable and meaningful!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I just got my photos back from my branding session with Yahozka, the talented photographer behind the lens of Gabriela Cruz Photography, and I've written this review about 100 times to try to explain how happy I am with all of them! I decided to do a branding session because I'm in the process of rebranding myself as a wellness event planner. Truthfully, I expected some headshots and a couple shots on a yoga mat. But Yahozka went above and beyond, starting with an in-depth branding questionnaire to get to know me and my brand, and asking detailed questions about how I planned to use the photos to make sure she got all the best shots for my needs. On the day of the shoot, she made me feel like a rockstar business yogi soulpreneur. Most importantly, she made me BELIEVE I could do it, which was such an empowering experience when I am just starting to establish myself in this new space. She is an incredibly skilled photographer with professional branding expertise and a passion for making sure her clients look and feel like their best selves, which shines through each and every photo she takes. I cannot thank her enough for such a wonderful experience from start to finish - she truly made me feel like a goddess, which I didn't know was possible in a branding session. I plan to repeat this experience every year to get fresh photos because it's that worth it.

Update April 2022:
I just did my second shoot with Gabriela Cruz Boudoir. I was so excited to shoot in the forest set and it did not disappoint! I just got to select my photos and OMG so beautiful! My first shoot also turned out beautifully but let me tell you what else I really like about this boudoir studio and why you should book with them! They walk you through eeeeeverything - not just posing. The process is super clear all the way through from the phone consult to the contract to following up with tips to be prepared and then a precise timeline of when to expect your photos. So all in all the photos turn out AMAZING and the communication is frickin fabulous! I will be doing another shoot with them for sure in the future! <3

I've received a couple behind the scene photos before leaving the studio and it was already so perfect. I can not imagine how much better it can get. My photo shoot was a bucket list event for myself and was so much more that I ever expected. It was so fun, relaxing, and absolutely no pressure. I honestly felt like I was a Queen for a day and the pictures go to prove it. They are so well done and more than I ever anticipated.
