Melanie Bernadsky, Florist
Melanie started working part time in a flower shop in high school where she got bit by the flower bug. She continued working with flowers through college in Edmonton.
In 1994, an opportunity for a WPG franchise came up and her family was on board to purchase together.
The first year Melanie was on her own with her dad doing books, then a year later her sister Monica joined the team with her business degree.
Over the years, Melanie has enjoyed training with the local floral wholesalers as well as taking a design course in Olds Alberta College and an amazing teaching opportunity in Holland. This was the beginning of her love for European design and different textures and use of foliage.
In 2010 the shop left the franchise and went through a branding process
to become freshcut downtown. It was important to have downtown in the name and invest in the community. Melanie has been on the Downtown Biz Board for several years. She loves the support of downtown Winnipeg and being able to give back to young entrepreneurs. Although we love delivering downtown, we have a city wide flower delivery service.
The business has been seen regularly on CTV Morning Live. Segments talk about trends, custom workshops in the store or on location as well as everyday luxury items that bring joy and nature to Winnipeg's urban center.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I live in Vancouver, needed to send a last minute bouquet for my mothers birthday, I was 10 minutes past cut off at about 3 different flower shops, I gave Freshcut a call with fingers crossed, and they were SO helpful. Getting the bouquet delivered SAME DAY, and even though I was a bit late placing they made an exception. Exceptional service, really kind over the phone and understanding. Would 10/10 recommend ordering through them if you want that fine touch of customer service. Wonderful!

She listened to what we were thinking, had us come in and choose from her selection which included gorgeous local flowers and then created magical masterpieces for us. Her service is exceptional and she goes above and beyond with communicating with pick-up and delivery. Highly recommended.

Owner was quick to reply with any questions and make helpful suggestions. Website was straightforward for ordering. Offered a delivery window, delivery was a breeze and on time (and contactless).
We'll definitely order from them again in the future when we need a little colour in our apartment!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had ordered earlier this month as a last minute gift for a family member, while I was out of province so it could be delivered the day before Christmas Eve. I acknowledge it's partially on myself for the last minute order, but even so, I was INCREDIBLY disappointed with the actual flowers received-- it looked absolutely nothing like the picture. Parts had been already wilting and turning brown after two days, and the bouquet itself was missing flowers that were present in the picture that was shown online. Personally, I would have been fine with replacing the flowers that were missing with something else had they communicated they weren't in stock, rather than simply not including them and making the bouquet seem larger than it was with additional greens.
However, even if the bouquet itself was less than stellar, the service itself was very good. They had made sure that someone would be available to accept the flowers, and did prioritize on delivery quality. They made the process of buying flowers online easy (especially to someone out of province, it's very convenient!) I just wish the quality of the flowers themselves was what was advertised. Great customer service though.
