Several years ago my wife was bullied and harassed by her employer of 30+ years. It was clear they were hoping to find a way to dismiss her but she is a very strong person and wasn't about to let this high profile Toronto employer force her from an outstanding career of compassionate service. We consulted with the Labour Board as well as several lawyers who offered differing advice and none would take our case because my wife was unionized, so we had no clear course of action in mind. I was referred to Franklin Law and contacted them by mail and short after Emma Pandy-Szekeres contacted me and I told her my problem. Emma was very professional, informative and efficient and she connected me with Yinka Oyelowo a Lawyer at Franklin Law. I had a phone conversation with Yinka and told her my situation, that my employer (a none profit organization) of over 12 years, would like to terminate me due to health issues without paying me severance package and my union did nothing about it. She told me that I am owed severance package according to the law and she will help me with this. After two days she contacted me and helped me word an email with a court ruling of a similar case. Both my employer and the union after a week of back and forth emails that Yinka helped with, agreed to give me a severance package. I hired Mr. Franklin to represent me with my human rights issue, and I do not believe I could have made a better choice. He is thorough, gave honest advice when asked, and set my expectations for how things may or may not go. He is very knowledgeable, and gave me the information required to make educated decisions regarding how I wanted to proceed with every step. I spoke to Jackie about my wrongful termination case against my employer, he was very informative and helped me understand many things about my case. Since I had a union I was told to try and get it resolved through them and if the company did not comply then we would have a human rights case. It has been 3 months and thats exactly what happened, i was told to contact franklin law again if this happened. Upon contacting franklin law about this issue and already have paid for the consult the first time I was asked to pay for another consult. At first I really thought they cared to help me as they KNOW im struggling with money and have clearly been unemployed for over a year, which is why i went to them. Unfortunatly this does not really seem the case, theyll take the deposit and if you need them again theyll ask you to pay for another. In a time where my employer is taking advantage of me I really did not expect a professional law firm to do the same. I wish luck to everyone out there and I sincerely hope you do not ever need a lawyer as this process is so stressfull and tiring. EDIT: Thank you for your reply Mr. Franklin. I was not asking for free representation, I understand that you do not work for free. What I do not understand is why I need to pay two consult fees for the same situation. Obviously if I wish to hire your law firm I understand there are other fees, and as such I would have paid fees upon retainer. Unfortunately we did not get that far as paying two consultation fees for the same issues does not seem fair.
