Fort Garry Mennonite Fellowship Church - Winnipeg

Our History

Fort Garry Mennonite Fellowship emerged in 1966 as an initiative of the Winnipeg Bergthaler Mennonite Church (now known as Home Street Mennonite Church) and formally organized in 1967. Founding members came from a variety of congregations.

The Fellowship met in rented facilities at Canadian Nazarene College until 1981 and then at Canadian Mennonite Bible College. In December 1984, FGMF moved into its newly constructed meeting place at 150 Bayridge Avenue. The initial group of 30 members has grown to approximately 200. Together we seek to encourage each other in faithful living of the Christian faith.

Our Mission

As a member of Mennonite Church Canada and Mennonite Church Manitoba, FGMF subscribes to the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective. Some parts of our Confession are stated in more particular terms in our FGMF Covenant.

In keeping with its belief in the authority of the congregation and the responsibility of all members for its life and ministry, FGMF does not focus leadership in any one person or office. The congregational chairperson, together with the widely representative Planning Committee, gives overall leadership to the Fellowship.

Small committees have direct responsibility for leadership in specific areas such as worship, education of children, youth and adults, and a variety of outreach ministries. Members of these committees are chosen by the congregation through a discernment process that seeks to benefit from experienced leaders while at the same time mentoring younger members in these responsibilities.
