A Father/Son day on the Bow River that I will NEVER forget! I have been extremely fortunate over the years to experience what the Bow River has to offer especially with the direction and support of multiple professional guides. Knowing fly fishing is such a passion of mine, I couldn’t wait until my son showed interest and wanted to join me on the river. Well, that day came and on March 31st Dana Lattery (Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters) guided Leo and myself down the river. Despite the chilly weather we were so excited about what the day may bring! After an informative boat safety discussion and personal casting lesson we were off! Drifting down the river I paused multiple times to truly absorb the moments that presented. Listening to our guide and how he navigated the water while explaining how and where to place our flys was remarkable. I could tell Leo was soaking in Dana’s suggestions as he was casting and even mending really well as the day went on. After a few hours passed, it happened.....Leo hooked into his first fish on the Bow River! His energy and excitement was out of this world and when his rainbow trout was netted the cheers began! His smile was ear to ear...and so was mine! After a few pictures were taken we realized that there were many firsts....first guided float together, first time catching a fish on a fly rod, and to top it off Leo’s fish was caught on a fly he learned how to tie from Thursday Night Live which is hosted by Tim Hepworth and Dana Lattery from Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters. Dana asked Leo if he was done fishing now that he caught his rainbow and within a second....oh no, I’m ready to go! We then continued down the river with such excitement and anticipation and if the day wasn’t already amazing enough I was shortly guided into a beautiful Brown Trout! What an end to such a memorable day! Thank you Dana for your patience, support and most of all your ability to provide a experience that has turned this day into a lifetime memory! I can’t wait to book a Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters trip this summer!!! 9th birthday he was all geared up

We are somewhat new to fly fishing and live in the heart of Calgary so we wanted to start getting out on the Bow more often to better experience the world class fishery right in our backyard. We made the decision to utilize a guide in order to learn as much as possible. After some research and a great discussion with Dana Lattery during which he outlined their philosophy of guiding, we landed on Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters. We joined Tim Hepworth for our first guided float trip on August 17th. It was 30+ degrees and sunny; a beautiful day to be out on the water, but not typically considered great for fishing. However, Tim still put us on numerous fish, and we each landed our first (of several) Bow Bullets and even a first Brown. Not to mention all the takes, losses, refusals...more than enough to keep us having a blast all day. Here are the two main points we took away from the day: 1) Tim was an absolute professional the entire time. He was always on, making sure everything was quick and seamless, yet he never made anything feel stressful, even when we tangled up for the 100th time. 2) Tim never tired of our questions and thirst for knowledge. In fact it was quite the opposite and he was more than willing to share his expertise on fishing strategies, including different times of year, different water levels, and even different rivers. In the end, we learned far more about fishing the Bow than we could have hoped. But the day was so much more than just the technical fishing aspect... So we will definitely be back! If anyone out there is looking for the this type of experience, the team of Pros at Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters will far surpass your expectations! Thanks for the awesome day! Ryan & Tess

My wife and I went on a guided drift boat float and had an amazing day! I'm a beginner at fly fishing who taught myself, and my wife has never touched a fly rod before. After a quick casting from a boat lesson we were off. The guide (Tim) really knew the river and got us in to plenty of fish all day. We were able to have great conversations with the guide all day. The food, drinks and the gear that they supplied made it easy for us just having to show up. We both had a great day and highly recommend them! I also joined them for Thursday Night Fly Tying this past season and learned how to tie flies and plenty of information regarding knots, equipment, tools ect. Its a day that I looked forward too every week.

Had the privilege of having a float with head guide Dana and a student of his, Aaron, during the Fly Fishing School they put on. It was evident from the start that the mantra of this company was passed along to their students in the Western Canadian Fly Fishing School. Aaron took the time to ask what I wanted out of the day to ensure he met my needs. From the time he loaded the boat into the water to the time we pulled out from the water, Aaron was attentive to any needs and was always concerned with my comfort and happiness. I would, without hesitation, recommend Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters in an instant. Their guides, owner, and business model cater to ensuring the best day possible. Catching fish is just a bonus on what would be an amazing time for anyone to book with them!

Best guided trip Ever!!! My Wife got me a guided trip on the Bow River for my birthday with Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters and WOW what a day! I have never had so much fun on the Bow River as I did that day. Our guide Dana who is awesome, worked with our limited fly fishing abilities and took us to the next level. His eagerness to share his knowledge of the bow river made for a great learning experience. He had us hooking up fish almost as soon as we hit the river, our skill to get them into the net came with a little more practice and feedback from Dana. Lunch was amazing on the water, we shared that time with Tim (another fly fishing bow river guide) that made for great conversations and laughs. We continued our lucky fishing streak for the rest of trip while being overwhelmed with the gorgeous views of the Bow river and beautiful weather. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Fly Fishing Bow river Outfitters to anyone of any skill level. Thanks Dana for an unforgettable trip!

We met Dana in the morning to start our day Dana was eager to make our day enjoyable, entertaining, educating and fun. Dana has great knowledge of Alberta rivers, lakes and streams and recommended us to do a walk and wade on a beautiful river in the foothills. We had an amazing time hanging out, learning, eating and chatting with each other. We even ended up catching and releasing some quality fish. I highly recommend Dana as a guide. PS: The snacks and meals were EPIC !!!!! The Nutella croissant #kiddingme lol lol hahaha I am gonna need baggier waders next time. lol lol

From beginning to end my personalized walk and wade trip was spectacular; something my dad and I will talk about for years to come. Not to mention the knowledge gained has already helped me land more fish!! From planning the trip with Dana, Tim’s professionalism and knowledge on the water. Or Tim’s sheer determination to get us on fish was nothing short of inspiring. I cannot recommend these guys enough! Our day began in search of cutthroat on the Oldman River, Tim brought us to some of the nicest pools I have ever seen. Tim reconned the water, and showed us where the cutthroat were surface feeding. Coaching us along the way we tried our luck, but before we had a chance to land any of these incredible fish we were greeted with incredible wind gusts. Determined to try another section of the River, Tim led us upstream in hopes that we may be able to evade the wind. No luck. The wind at this point was gusting enough to bend the fly rods over and get the flies airborne. Tim suggested we head back to the truck and adventure to a different section of water that is sheltered from the wind. After a short trip down the forestry trunk (and a bit of off-roading in Tim’s truck) we arrived at the Livingstone and were greeted with almost no wind! Excited to get on the water we made a quick hike down to the river, where we were greeted with more cutthroat! Tim spent the rest of the afternoon coaching us and helping us hone our skills. Reading the water, studying bugs and changing what seemed to be hundreds of flies has never seemed so great. I finally landed a gorgeous but very picky cutthroat on a mayfly spinner. Tim explained proper fish handling and snapped pictures for our bragging rights! We were having such a great time we completely forgot about lunch and fished for the rest of the afternoon. The trip back to Calgary was filled with laughs and some unreal dessert from our skipped lunch. This trip will be talked about for years to come, a memory my dad and I won’t forget.

Had the opportunity to book a full day float with Dana. Was an awesome day!!! 1st fish in the net and we could still see the boat launch. Dana had no problems rowing back up the good fishing sections of the river. Multiple double headers throughout the day. Awesome gear, and even better guide! Thanks for a fantastic day Dana. Definitely going to book with Fly Fishing Bow River Outfitters again!
