Regretfully, I do NOT stand behind my previous review of this business...Govern yourselves accordingly in dealing with this particular business....I don't see the need to get into the details of what transpired since the initial review was written/posted, but I personally will not support this business any more... Thank you for your time. We needed some service to one of our gas fireplace inserts and was looking for someone local to do the work. Dropped into Fires Alive and spoke to Megan about my issue...she was extremely helpful and set up a service appointment. Service tech showed up on time and we were impressed at the quality of service and fair costs.Fast forward to now, we needed to look for a new fireplace insert for another fireplace we have, wanted to turn it for propane instead of wood burning. my wife & I again went to Fires Alive and again met with Megan, which took the time to discuss the various insert options available to us....we ended up choosing a nice looking unit, settled our deposit obligations and proceeded with the order....Logan is a stand up gentleman, he came over to our residence and inspected the site determined the insert we had in mind would work in our specific application and set things in motion. A couple of weeks later the unit arrived and was installed by Fires Alive VERY competent installers, they were ON TIME, polite and very professional...they left our house clean and tidy, took all packaging with them for disposal, and left us with positive thoughts on the whole process. I would HIGHLY recommend FIRES ALIVE for all your barbecue/fireplace needs... avery pleasant professional team to deal with that stand behind their commitment, thank you guys for the wonderful service. Mario & Cassandra.

We have had two experiences with Fires Alive. Last year I bought my husband a Napoleon BBQ. They delivered it on his birthday and actually polished it after they put it together. Yesterday, we had a gas fireplace installed. Logan, the owner, was terrific at guiding us through the process. We were so impressed with the professionalism of James and Owen. Their installation was fantastic. They explained the entire process and give us a thorough lesson on how to use the remote. Thanks to Michelle for her communication and rapid response. We'd highly recommend the team. Our house is warm and we love our BBQ.

We have had a terrific experience with Logan and his team at Fires Alive. With their understanding of our needs and their expert knowledge they recommended a Blaze King Sirocco for our place in North Kawartha. The professional installation went without a hitch and the performance of the wood stove is exactly as promised; particularly the clean burning and long run time. Thanks to Fires Alive!

On May 5th 2017, Logan Malcolm came out to my home to do a site visit and see if it was possible to have a solo tube installed in my kitchen. We discussed the routing of the tube and placement of the dome I clearly stated that we were opposed to having it routed through the new addition on the back part of our house as the dome would be in the valley of the roof, as previously told to us by my contractor. This valley is where the new addition meets the existing part of the house. Malcolm stated that it was not a problem, that the best place to install the tube would be to remove the existing light fixture with fan and in doing so the solo tube could be routed to the front part of the house. Malcolm explained that there are light kits that could also be purchased, the light kit will accommodate 2 light bulbs, this factored into my decision as we were using 3 light bulbs after all we were looking for more light in our kitchen not less regardless of whether it was daytime or evening. After considering our options we decided that we would purchase a 14 inch solo tube with light kit and have the tube routed to the front our house, I requested to have the installation done May 22nd 2017 as I was on vacation that week and I would be home should there be any issues. Malcolm indicated that he did not foresee any problems coming that week as long as there was no rain in the forecast. The whole install was very unprofessional and frustrating. The start date was delayed, his electrician did not show up so the installers took it upon themselves to start disconnecting wires which left us without hydro to certain areas of the kitchen and dining room, light switches did not work correctly afterwards. I did receive a call from the installers when the work was already underway saying that they could not install the 14 inch tube as there was not enough room (not sure why because the roof trusses are 16 in on center) but could install a 10 inch, I did inquire as to how this would affect the amount of daylight that would be coming in, the installer said that the amount would be β€œhardly noticeable”. At no point during this conversation or at any other time during the installation was it said that the 10 inch would only accommodate 1 light bulb and that the tube was going to be installed through the back of the house, through the addition and right next to the valley, the exact same place that we were quite clear we did not want it. We do have a bit of sunlight coming through although I’m sure it could have been more had it been installed at the front as there is definitely more sunlight there compared to being buried in the valley of the roof. I also have a lot less light now in the evening as I am now down to one light bulb (23watt) compared to the 3 (60 watt) that I had been using. I now am at risk of ice backup and water damage. It clearly states on page 2 of the Solatube installation instruction manual to avoid installing β€œnear water channels and valleys”). I have read the domes must be installed at least 2 feet away from any valley so it’s very likely that the warranty would not be honored. I did contact the Solutube main office; a gentleman by the name of Gabe called me and indicated that maybe the owner/installers needed more education. Really!! Here’s a thought, how about ensuring that those that represent Solotube receive that education before setting them loose on unsuspecting consumers. I have contacted Malcolm several times asking him to resolve this issue, my requests have been ignored. It has been almost a year now and he has yet to come out to see what his installers have done. Anyone considering having this company install a solotube is welcome to contact me, I would be more than happy to show you what they have done. Oh and did I mention that during the winter the daylight is non-existent due to the dome being buried under the snow. Gabrielle Swartzman

We live over 3 hours away from our newly acquired cottage which meant we needed someone to complete our job without having to be present. When asking for a Wet report for our wood stove Fires Alive came recommended. Like so many cottages ours didn't pass. Logan gave us excellent advice and timely service to have our new wood stove installed. When the final bill came in the cost even was reduced because they used less material than quoted! I would absolutely call them again for any related needs and would also recommend them to anyone. We couldn't be happier with the service.

A great place for BBQ and fireplace needs. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating. Last time I was there they had these cool solotube lights that are like a pot light but it uses the sun and can be controlled by remote. So cool and Environmentally friendly.

We had a great experience at Fires Alive. Logan helped us choose the best fireplace for our sunroom addition. His technicians are highly skilled and his office staff is friendly and efficient. It all went very smoothly and we are enjoying our beautiful Jotul stove.
