Firefly Circus Academy - Edmonton

Hello FireFlyers –

We have some very important news to share with all of you.

The Firefly Circus Academy will discontinue teaching recreational aerial classes as of March 21st, 2022.

After 18 years of teaching aerial and acrobatic classes in Edmonton, Firefly Theatre and Circus is evolving. When we began offering our classes in 2004, there weren’t any other circus schools in the area – zero. We had a dream, and that was to see a circus community grow. Now there are multiple options for training in the Edmonton region; a circus community has indeed been established in our city and is not going to go away any time soon.  Therefore, we have decided that 2022 is the right time for Firefly to take the next step.

We are going to transition from offering recreational classes to providing professional development opportunities for circus artists, hosting workshops by out-of-town instructors, and producing performances that incorporate the vibrant and creative talent that we have in our community. We will also focus on presenting performances, panels and workshops for emerging and professional circus artists via the Alberta Circus Arts Festival. We believe that Edmonton can be hub for circus arts in Western Canada, and this is our next goal.

Community has always been and remains important to us, and we want to do what we can to support, nurture and inspire a world class circus community in the Edmonton area. The Board of Directors of Firefly Theatre and Circus is working on plan moving forward for the new era of Firefly, so stay tuned.
