Get a second opinion before paying the retainer. I have no idea how they are at law, probably great, but this is why 1 star.. and if I could give negative stars I would. I used bark, and on bark, typed out my situation with quote requests, and on bark chose Ontario, for whatever reason, maybe my postal code, they sent my request for a divorce in Ontario where the children reside, to lawyers in Alberta. I know almost nothing about the law. I noticed that it sent me to AB lawyers, so I sent a cancelation. I received a call from a very professional sounding lawyer, I apologized and stated I think I need a lawyer in Ontario. He asked how long I lived in AB, I stated about 7 years, I did not mention the kids at this time prominently because there were no questions asked other than how long I lived here. The lawyer then stated that they COULD do it here as I have been here for 7 years. Since the lawyer told me that they could do it here, I made the huge mistake of paying my retainer. This was Oct 13ish. So a couple of days later, the lawyer called me, and stated that since there are kids that live in Ontario they don't think they could do it here. They offered me a settlement agreement, but I refused as I want a complete and total separation from my ex. The Lawyer said that they would look I to the return of my retainer as it is in trust and said it would likely have to be mailed. Okay, sounds ds good. So, at this point it is still in Oct. I sent an email Oct 27 asking g about the return of the retainer and received an email back stating they would work on it. I then get frikin billed, they billed me Oct 31, after I refused service, they then said they could do it to be told they can not. I got billed $105. I toyally disagree, but okay whatever, lots of old jokes about politicians and lawyers being crooks, so it stands to reason. I figured, since I received a bill, the retainer should not be far behind. I waited, was patient and sent an email Nov 17 asking when I might receive the retainer back. And I waited. So, Nov 22, I sent yet another email, including pretty much everyone that was included in other emails, asking about when I would receive my retainer. And I waited. I sent yet another email Nov 25, I am quite a patient person, and I pay a lot of courtesy as businesses get busy, things get forgotten. Apparently not the bill though. Nice a quick with that. And I waited. I have a lot of anxiety, super bad one trigger is having to call people... But..I then called, Nov 29, the receptionist was wonderful and spoke with the lawyer, I was told the cheque would be cut the next day. And I waited. So, the standard mailing time frame passes, and nothing in the mail. This is now Dec 14... I called again, apparently the cheque was not cut, it was not in the mail, it was forgotten. They told me they would get right on it and still nothing. They billed me, then made me wait and have to fight for the return of the remainder of the retainer for 2 months. I stared calling every day that the retainer was not in the mail, which is I believe the only reason why they eventually sent it. Now, mind you after multiple emails and tons of calls, and me being very insistent they sent the check via fedex.

Rabie was so easy to work with when buying our first home! He's personable, professional and communicated with all the parties involved. He was responsive and answered our many, many questions. Thank you, we will be back for our next home :)
