★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This auction house charged you a “Buyer’s Premium”, as if it is somehow a great privilege that you are allowed to buy from them. Just think about it. Would you go into any other business and pay this. Go into any major or minor retailer. Pick say $1000;00 in merchandise. You get your sales slip and they want $1250.00 plus any applicable taxes. You show them the mistake and they tell you it is a “Buyer’s Premium”. Would you pay it? Why pay it here? The hammer price is the same as the price in a retail shop. Why are you paying a percentage more.
Just something to think about.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had the most wonderful experience here. This auction house is run by two long time friends who provide not only premium expertise and merchandise but a very comfortable environment. I don’t really frequent auctions for financial reasons but I didn’t feel unwelcome whatsoever. I would go back again without a doubt. The auctioneer is also quite funny and that’s just a nice bonus. I left with a beautiful Spanish rapier and a lovely old timey window.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I attended your February 27th Auction. We loved your place as soon as we stepped inside. You are like walking into a museum where we can buy all the exhibits. The evening was entertaining. The items you offered at auction were a strange mix of everything we enjoy. We felt right at home with a touch of antiques blended with mid century art glass, fantastic oriental and Chinese porcelain. Even-though we only left with one item, it was a great evening. To paraphrase Arnold Schwarzenegger... "We'll be back" on our next trip to Montreal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I participated in a recent online auction of theirs and won the item I bid on. After paying for the item, I received a call the next day from their employee, Angus, who informed me that someone else also won the item I won, as they run their auctions on different websites at the same time. The other person who had somehow also won, came and picked up the paintings the day after the auction. So, a local bidder got them, and me being located in a different province...well, I guess they just didn't want to ship it. They offered me $50 bucks credit towards a future auction of theirs as a "whoops sorry". I declined the credit. How could I trust that a future lot that I win wouldn't also go to a local bidder, or someone else bidding on another website at the same time? Shame. I would've been a regular bidder with them. Fortunately there are many, many other places to buy antiques where they don't make these kinds of errors.
In response to their response: It was not a matter of the credit offered not being "enough" (quite a poor thing for them to say actually), it was that I couldn't trust a future auction item I won to not go to another winner. The apology was not profuse, but it didn't need to be. Mistakes happen. But I could not give more than one star given my experience with this auction house.
