About École Secondaire Notre Dame High School

Credit recovery allows students to further their understanding and address learning gaps in courses for which they were not successful. Through credit recovery, students can work towards earning credit for a course they were not successful in without retaking the entire course.

Criteria for students to be eligible to complete credit recovery:

  • The student must have achieved a mark of 45-49% in the course.
  • The student's absences must not exceed 25% for the course.
  • The student does not plan on taking the next course in the sequence.

Credit recovery is usually not available for CTS modules due to health and safety concerns.

Students who are planning on taking the next course in the sequence are encouraged to retake the prerequisite course instead of completing credit recovery. This is to ensure the student experiences success at the next level. For example, a student who is completing credit recovery for Math 20-2 should not be planning to take Math 30-2 afterwards. In this case, it is recommended the student retake Math 20-2 to better prepare them for success in Math 30-2.

All instances are discussed with the teacher where possible prior to allowing the student to complete credit recovery.

good school, the competition with hunting hills for sure helps maintain both schools at a high level.

Teachers are actually really good. The only thing I have an issue with is the way I'm treated by the lady in the SSC and the lady who used to be the receptionist at student services last semester (grey hair, glasses, bigger build)- treats me and others like absolute garbage

This school is absolutely terrible. Not one person in the entire administration cares about the lives of the students, nor do they care enough to help students succeed. They do not care about legitimate reasons for missing a class, and therefore will do anything they can to make sure you "serve your time." I would never recommend this school to anyone unless you're a rich white 100% catholic male.

Worst school I've ever attended. This school can care less about your academic standing and will hunt you down if you've missed class for a day with a parent called in and excused for. Some staff are good and some aren't. Not a very cultural school to begin with. They try and claim to be, but they are very biased and I would even say racist at times.

I honestly think I couldn't have been sent to a better school. I spent my Gr.10-13 years of High school within this fine establishment. The teachers I had were really good for the most part, some of which I almost consider friends, aside from one or two bad apples. The Sports options they have are vast. ( I most enjoyed Football and Rugby, with some wrestling in there. Won Football League Championships my Gr. 12 Year. Go Cougars!) They also have a significantly vast selection of courses. Aside from Cores, they have from Mechanics and Fabrication, to Computer Sciences, and Arts and Fine Arts (Drama, Band, etc) I would certainly recommend this school. Catholic school or no, it's a great school. They don't force you to partake in religious activities for the most part aside from Religion being a graduation requirement. And, they're really open about anyone's beliefs. Notre Dame also houses the sole Dungeons and Dragons club in the entire Red Deer Catholic School District! Started by yours truly! I do hope it runs well. But, yes, I do highly recommend this school. Great Teachers, Great Courses, and a great place to meet life-long friends.

There's something so warm and welcoming walking into this school every morning. So many amazing, understanding and compassionate teachers and counselors want to see you succeed academically, and personally. Staff does an amazing job at creating a school community that truly feels like a second family. I love this school, I love the staff, I love the people I share my classes with, and I am grateful that I can always feel safe in this building. God Bless <3
