The municipally owned Dryden Regional Airport, located approximately 10 km north of the City of Dryden, is situated just off the TransCanada Highway at the midpoint between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay, around 350 kms from each in the heart of Northwestern Ontario.  The Airport serves as a hub for regional air passenger/charter services and is also the home of Northern Youth Programs, Mag Aerospace, Northern Youth Programs and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's Fire Management Centre.  In December 2019, the City of Dryden entered into a management contract with the Loomex Group, a leading aerospace operation firm.

Our Facility

A certified facility, the Airport meets the requirements of TP312E for a Code 3C Non-precision Runway for runway 12-30 and has a total land area of 238 hectares. The Airport has one paved 6000 foot primary runway 12-30 with ILS capability and an air terminal building providing some 1100 square meters of space.

Our History

The Dryden Regional Airport was built in partnership with the Town of Dryden and Transport Canada. The Airport opened July 1969. On January 31, 1996, the full ownership of the Airport transferred from Transport Canada to the Corporation of the City of Dryden.

Nice place, have some good hangers on the property, the turn aircraft service seemed to be top notch as the turn around rate was very quick! Good place to refuel and get service!

The Air Ontario Fokker F28 that crashed here on takeoff in 1989 - killing 24 people - was referenced by a previous reviewer in their 1 star review. This crash was caused by pilot error - ice buildup on the wings - and was in no, way a reflection of this airport or tower controler. The captain's decision not to de-ice the wings was the main contributing factor for this craah. His reason for not deicing was due to the plane not being able to be de-iced with one engine running. A non-working APU was central to the captain not being able to shut both engines. Even if the plane had been de-iced - Type 1 de-icing fluid and a long time gap between de-icing and takeoff would none the less have also hampered the plane's flight capability.
