????? Dr. Yolanda, she is like a phantom working on your mouth, you don’t feel her, you don’t feel any pain, I went in with a crack on my tooth from a popcorn seed and a back molar that needed a deep filling. she should call herself the painless doctor she is so good at what she does don’t even bother looking anywhere else and I do not have a high tolerance for any sort of discomfort or pain. So reasonably priced so clean and sterile. you’ve won my heart

I went for an emergency visit today and the staff was super accomodating and nice. I am usually very anxious when visiting a dentist but the team in the Etobicoke office made me feel so comfortable. Celia was amazing at making me feel at ease and putting a smile on my face as well as the other team members , especially the dentist who fixed my tooth who was very professional and knowledgeable. The entire team was very caring and made me feel very calm and relaxed, from the moment when I walked in until leaving. Super satisfied and will be back for sure. I’m so happy I finally found a dentist office that truly cares about my wellbeing and my dental health. The office was also super clean with good protocols to disinfect once entering the office. This gave me a peace of mind during these difficult covid times.

After not visiting the dentist throughout the pandemic, I booked with Dr. Cruz for a cleaning and to address the tooth sensitivity I've been facing for years. I was persuaded by the amount of five-star reviews. In the past few weeks, I've gone in for one comprehensive exam, two deep cleanings with fillings, and one additional session with just filling. My experience has been mixed. THE GOOD: - Dr. Cruz and her team have been very flexible and accommodating. I accidentally showed up at the wrong location. The hygienist Dahlia and Dr. Cruz stayed late and wrapped up my exam past their closing time. - Jiwon is an incredible dental hygienist. She is understanding, kind and does a fantastic job. She's informative, letting me know exactly what's happening, and checks in before and while doing anything. I can't recommend her enough. - The admin ladies at the front desk are amazing. One in particular, whose name I unfortunately did not get, is absolutely exemplaryβ€”took the time to correct a miscommunication (I thought I was going in for a consultation, she thought I was committing to a treatment which would require another, different $400 exam). She could easily have ignored my frustration and cited policy, but she was empathetic and took the time to understand the situation. Outstanding customer service. - The health protocols are thorough. I've been to doctors' offices and labs that aren't as rigorous in their procedures. THE BAD: - I have anxiety when it comes to dentistry due to experiences in my past. Anesthetic takes a long time to kick in for me, and either doesn't work or fades fairly quickly unless the dose is large. My teeth are also incredibly sensitive. I've twice been told something might not hurt or that I am indeed numb only to experience pain during the fillings. The first time, fine, it's a learning experience, I get it. But the second time I had to take a few seconds to recover. I was given the impression that my reaction to this pain was dramatic and overwrought. I was instructed to "Breathe" and calm down. - I was told during one of the appointments that to be less anxious about the pain because it will make things worse. My anxiety is mine to manage but my issue isn't with anxiety, it is with pain. Regardless of my level of anxiety, I don't want to experience pain during treatment. I didn't find this advice to be particularly helpful and it did not make me feel good about my treatment. - At times, I felt talked down to by having simple concepts explained to me multiple times, or like my questions weren't being heard or understood, or like the dentist was frustrated with my asking. Eventually, after a few clarifications, I did achieve some understanding but I was taken aback at the disconnect. - I have also gotten conflicting sets of information across multiple visits, including with which fillings were priority, which were observe only, and which fillings were happening when. There're more I could say but can't due to word count limits. I would encourage taking patients seriously when it comes to their assessment of their pain tolerance, their reactions to anesthetic and what's happening in their own bodies during treatment. I would also say the communication aspect needs some work. It does not make me feel like an equal participant in my own care to be spoken down to, given conflicting information and invited to consult on treatment options only to be surprised with "We don't do consultations so you'll need to pay $400 for an exam." Despite the negative experiences, I will continue to go to Dr. Cruz for now, because the location is convenient, the team is great and I do feel the work is of high quality. But I will be continuing to evaluate the relationship over the next few appointments to see if this is a feasible long-term provider for me.
