Dr. Taranjit Tung

just had a tkr on my right, 7 weeks ago. Dr. Tung is an awesome guy, to the point very thorough, very pleasant.

Dr. Taranjit Tung did a 3 and 3/4 hour complex total knee replacement and tendon revision for me on January 24th 2020. If my surgery became a hinged replacement, he ordered the equipment and made sure it was there. We did not need it! I was teetering on having a lot more bone removed and a hinge knee replacement. He worked hard to keep as much bone as possible, and I had a regular total knee replacement with a post in the tibia for stability. It is working spectacularly. This man was completely hands on. He greeted me in the pre-op area, he was friendly and calming when I walked into the O.R., addressing me directly. When I woke up in in my ward, he was there to see how I was doing within a few hours of the conclusion of my operation. He encouraged me to start my exercises to keep the knee loose, (pumping my foot and pushing my knee down into the bed). He came back at least once every day I was in the hospital in Campbell River. When I needed more pain control, he ordered the Diloted I needed and it was administered within a half hour. After I went home, I was called into appointments with the bone and joint clinic for dressing changes that he did personally, and staple removal. A couple of hours went by waiting for my staples to be removed due to a delay earlier in his day. My pain medication had worn off, and I didn't bring extra. The staples came out and I was crying and clenching my teeth while the poor nurse removed them: I need to be very clear here, I was fine. That didn't stop Dr. Tung from making sure that I was. He looked in and made sure. The next day he called my cell phone and asked me if everything was ok and that I'm not too discouraged after my staple removal. He has a conscience, and practices involved healing that makes me think: why don't all doctors do this? The recovery time with this level of involved healing and treatment is invaluable. He connects with everyone he treats, and I would like to reccomend that he continues this, and shows others how it is done. Every time I mention his name, nurses, physiotherapists, other patients sing his praises for being down to earth, personable and hands on while remaining completely professional and never wavering from his method that he knows works. With his encouragement, my pain is reduced, my dependance on pain medication is drastically reduced, and I feel envolved and encouraged to do my very best in my recovery in every way. Dr. Tung was there for it all, and was there for very tough times for me. He did eveything in his power to make sure I was never discouraged to the point of having the effect of risking a lesser recovery. Wholistic relational patient centred care is his specialty. It would be a tragedy if he was hampered from continuing his method in any way. He is successful, respected and loved by all.

Dr. Tung did my wife's surgery. We have friends in the hospital and medical community. We have friends who have had surgery from him. All opinions expressed were good. That kinda made me skeptical...... But, when we met him, he was (and likely still is) cocky, confident, smart, concise, to-the-point and yet, still personable. He also KNOWS what he wants. Turns out the nurses like him because he is clear and direct in his instructions but also because he does PROPER follow up. He came to see my wife twice in two days ON THE WEEKEND! I have no problem with confident to the point of cocky...THAT gives me confidence. And, as it turned out, his confidence is well placed. Everything is good. She is on the mend. Highly recommended.
