It's a great place for youth, However some of the staff seem a little stuck up! Most may have gone into the industry hoping to help youth at one point, however like cops they tend to be desensitized to the ongoing issues...

Directions are the best, their outreach team have helped me so much in the hardest moments of my life. Their 9pm meal every day is delicious and they offer good variety of breakfast foods in the morning. Their pet room has a good amount of supplies for l kinds of pets ranging from dogs to rats and everything in between. They have everything you could need : showers, laundry, filtered water tap, snacks,.clean clothes, a living room with TV, media room, etc. Thank you directions for all the help and care. β™‘

My experience here has always been good with the exception of one staff member who makes me, a young woman, incredibly uncomfortable. His name is John and he's one of the managers. The other day I was at the youth facility to access their pantry program, I have been going to directions actively to receive help for about 2 years. During this specific occurance, I was occupying an empty table as John Kehler walks into my space and asks me to move to another table. I didn't see a problem in asking why (as it is my right as a human being to understand why I'm being asked to do something) to which he responded in a passive aggressive tone, stepping closer and more into my space. At this point, I'm sitting down and he's attempting to intimidate me by towering. He argued with me so I accused him of acting in misogyny because as an ex youth in care, young person and advocate - this is what I felt when he was being unfair to me asking me to leave for no reason. I asked for a grievance form and I got asked to leave without any support or groceries. During this uprise, a staff member called me by a name I no longer use anymore and that also made me very uncomfortable for confidentiality reasons, as well in my opinion - that breaks and endangers agreements I made upon intake with this facility. I spoke with another young lady who accesses the shelter and she expressed to me that John does feel really mean and passive at many of the clients, I've also been told by another young person unable to access permanently - because John used a racial slur "chug" at the young man and the young man reacted to being culturally put down. This whole situation makes me feel like I don't belong and that a man is able to act upon his personal feelings towards clients because of his status within the building. I'm losing food in my stomach over this and I'm also pregnant. This is a facility taking from its clients. I need help, because this youth shelter unfairly sends folks away. Additional issue: I did an intake for a harm reduction program, was 5 minutes late my first day, I took time out of my home life, my dog and my safety from Covid-19 - to be told to try again tomorrow. The facilitator was there, it didn't look like my 5 minutes was problem, as the staff in multiple phone calls to make sure, assured me I could come in.

I was a underage ? person coming in from a tough situation and the staff welcomed me greatly and made sure I was ok they listened to everything I had to say, that told assured me that every will be okay. They welcomed me for one night to stay they went above and beyond to get government approval for me to stay there as a underage boy. The next day they told me to come back because I didn't have a place to stay and they assured me that they will find somewhere to stay. I met lovely people Alyssa and Julien and as well as a red haired lady, as well as all the staff that helped me through. Owe 'em all?

I don't know who is going to read this but I never took the time to say thank you to all of you. You listened to me, you fed me, let me shower, gave me clothes and other stuff, helped me stay in contact with my family and friends, you gave me a safe place to sleep time to time when I didn't feel safe sleeping outside or at my ex boyfriend place. I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything you did for me, I am grateful for it. Maybe you won't remember who I am. Anyway, I'm Γ‰milie (french girl from Montreal,Quebec), I just wanted to let you know I left Vancouver 3years ago, I got home to my family, I'm fully sober more than a year now. I got a job and I'm back to school, most of all I'm happy. You did help me a lot in the worst time of my life and I will forever be grateful for it. Keep up the good work!
