A hidden gem near Verona - a 30 minute drive from Kingston. Great for a morning or afternoon walk.

Very lovely easy hike. Open dawn to dusk. Proceed from parking area along the meandering path through a meadow (watch out for cows). At the gates on the other side, you can enter a red or blue path. I only explored the red. Full loop (consisting of 3 smaller loops) takes about 1hr 30min at leisurely pace. Different views of the creek, trees, pond. Some up and down hill. A large boulder for those that want to climb. Keep an eye on the circle / arrow markers to stay on path. Should be easy enough for kids. Lovely bridge and bench.

We explored the reserve, somewhat briefly, on January 2, 2021 as part of the Christmas Bird Count (Moscow area). I was impressed by the trail markers (cleverly re-used tops of frozen juice cans), the maps and the, thoughtfully located and appointed, outhouse complete with a binder showing the local wildlife in plastic page protector sheets! The landscape, even in the winter, is tranquil and beautiful. After crossing a lovely meadow, the trail we followed took us through tall stands of mature hemlock and across Depot Creek on a sturdy bridge. A lovely serene area. We will return again for sure.

Nice place for a quick and beautiful hike. Well marked trails...Make sure you follow the markers all the way through the cow field to the forest and beaver ponds.

I just wanted to explore a random place on Google maps while driving around and picked the Depot Creek Nature Reserve. I drove on some small winding rural farmland roads to get there and those views were nice especially seeing farms and the decaying Bellrock dam's gris mill. However, when I got to this nature reserve I was disappointed that it was just an open farm field where cows graze and go to a watering hole. I may have missed something, but I followed the well marked trail and saw nothing else. It is nice to have dedicated reserve areas for nature but this just looks like a typical farmer's field. My advice is don't bother going here. Btw my Goggle maps and GPS signal was terrible in the surrounding area and got me lost telling me to go down dirt roads. Thankfully, friendly people in the area showed me the way to highway 7 so I could find my way back home. Next time I go in this area I will take a paper map. If you like my reviews, photos or videos why not moo ve your thumbs up.
