The place is nice and the location is amazing. However, the staff and the instructors are not really friendly, rude at times. I was a member there and I left because it took them forever to fire and glaze my pieces, so it wasn't really worth it at the end.

Claytek is really great. Small classes, loads of wheels, lots of space for hand building, a wide range of clay bodies, glazes, slips etc. to use. Plus loads of really friendly and helpful people. Recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to pot. :)

Great studio with a good facilities and great accessible hours. I took the beginners wheel course and with a bit of practice feel pretty good about what I can build, so far. Pics to come once all my pieces make it through their firings.

I have been working in ceramics as a hobby my whole life, but never before have I felt put off and unwelcome in a studio. I am new to Vancouver and was excited to see a studio so close to my Chinatown apartment. when I walked by and saw that they were not busy, only two people on the wheels, I inquired about a membership. unfortunately I ended up leaving fairly quickly when the woman on staff was quite rude. I don't know her name, but she had gray hair and glasses wire rimmed topped with a broad multicolored band. She seemed entirely uninterested in giving me any information about the studio except that there was a long wait list for membership. It was clear that she would have preferred if I just left the studio and not bothered her. (so much for the "welcome, come in" sign out front...) I asked her how long the wait list was, but Instead of answering she started interrogation me about my experience in clay. yes, she should ask me questions about my experience, but it should not make me feel like I am some low level scumbag, generally I love talking about ceramics, but at this moment I felt like I needed to defend my experience. I didn't get very far in my "defense" because the phone rang and the woman took the call without apology. I walked out then, not worth my time. I work in customer service and the goal is always to make the customer happy. It feels bad to now have that level of service returned to me.

I am currently taking the beginner pottery wheel class here. Great studio with knowledgeable instructors who do a fantastic job of walking you through the process and assisting when help is needed. I also think the pricing is more than fair for clay and classes.

Took a Beginner Wheel class and it was really good value, definitely worth the price. We learned a lot in each class, the material was broken down by lessons really well. The instructor, Alysha (sp?) is knowledgeable and experienced. She is really good at rewording the explanation and presenting it in a different way if you don't understand something the first time, a great resource. Either manager is at the studio during drop-in hours which is helpful when you inevitably have a question, the other members were open to sharing their experience as well. The studio never felt crowded, it is also extremely clean and organized. As a beginner , I was satisfied with the tools and glazes available. Bonus points for the location and cuteness of the studio. (there is an amazing sandwich place and the best ice cream place close by)

Beginner class at Claytek is so worth the cost. Along with the class you get unlimited access to the studio for the duration of your class. Pottery is pretty difficult and requires loads of practice before you can throw a piece without it collapsing, so the extra time is necessary. The instructor is patient and understanding, and doesn't judge you when you ruin a piece (even if you totally judge yourself). Can't wait to spend more time with my 20+lbs of clay!
