CCS is a compassionate and safe place to receive counselling services/help. I have been grateful to be counselled by Jon Stanley. He models kindness and respect to his clients, and his insights, observations, and incisive questions have been instrumental in my healing from various traumatic experiences in both childhood and adulthood. For someone who was hesitant about counselling, my experiences at CCS have quelled and challenged my prior misgivings and misconceptions, respectively. I have been, and would continue in recommending Jon as a counsellor to others. CCS is also compassionate to clients because they offer the option of a sliding scale- fees are proportional to one's gross monthly income.

I have never written a review before but felt that I needed to share this with someone who is considering seeking counsel. I believe by sharing MY experience with others (through an honest review) I can somehow deter another human being from potentially being broken the way a particular counsellor left me. "L M" was my counsellor (I will not expose her real name as I do not want to hurt her, regardless of the pain she's caused me). When sharing an experience with her that had been plaguing me for years, she responded poorly. She failed to remove herself and her own emotions from the experience I was sharing with her, even though I informed her of how sensitive the subject was for me. She took emotional scarring to a whole new level for me. I remember leaving my counseling session more damaged than how I entered that day. After praying and seeking GOD about the whole thing (this took months), I received the revelation that her "counsel" was not Christ inspired, that GOD did not share the same attitude she had towards my pain. Her "words of wisdom" were NOT from the holy spirit (even though I was expecting the holy spirit to speak through her seeing as she is a pastor). Although she may have meant well, her inability to remain neutral as a counsellor not only cost her a client (me) but made me question my faith that a good GOD exists. I had come to the realization that I had to choose to forgive "L M" on a daily basis if I ever wanted to be free again. I also learnt that not everybody deserves to hear your pain (regardless if they are in a pastoral position or not). I would not recommend "L M" for counsel. I am certain there are better counsellors out there who deserve to hear your story without subduedly vilifying you. Counsellors are meant to help you heal and move forward not do the opposite. Should you choose to see this particular counsellor I've just mentioned you run the unnecessary risk of adding more "salt to your wounds". Please be advised.
