Some of the best chicken biryani I've ever had. When I lived near by I came here once a week religiously buying 2 biryanis and some samosas. Every time I came in the owner/cook had a smile on his face. I highly recommend this place not only is it really good its fantastic for the price you pay. I went to another Indian at the Time out market, and the flavor could not compare to the one at Chennai Express. Please go and get yourself a biryani you will nor regret it. I miss going here weekly c,:

Authentic South Indian cuisine. Authentic South Indian taste. They make fresh food and loved the taste of it. I recommend to add more authentic South Indian options in your menu. Good food, pocket friendly.

200% fantastic and 10 stars out of 5 stars for its authentic, original and homely South Indian cuisine fare! I am originally from Chennai and settled here in Canada many years back and by chance, during my vacation from Vancouver, I stepped into this unassuming (unappealing and modest) place called Chennai Express and what a lucky day of my life for me it was! Neve before I had such a super tasting chicken Biriyani - not even in Chennai or for that matter whole of South India! I am not exaggerating! I had the salted lassi and what a taste it was! Please visit this place or order a takeout, you will hit a culinary jackpot! Owner Venkat, who is originally from Chennai is courteous and friendly and he has priced the menu very modestly and the value you get in return is gold! I within an hour went back to this place again and ordered for idlies (rice cakes) and believe me, again, they are the best idlies I ever had! I was looking for another salted lassi but he had, no wonder, already run out of the same and it was only 3 hours since he opened the shop for the day! He had just a half a cup left and he gave me the same for free! Please do not miss this place, if you really want to have a real and genuine South Indian items at a very affordable price, right here in the very centre of downtown Montreal!

The only Indian restaurant I've found in the city that makes dosas and the delicious and unique chili bhajis. The dosas are very rich and savory, with a good amount of spice and come with a delicious coconut chutney for dipping. Prices are also very decent. The butter chicken is a little different than other places but still very good. Highly recommended

I was walking along St Catharine’s when I saw this place. And what a chance surprise! One of the best dosas that I’ve had in canada. Being from Toronto, it’s very difficult to get good dosas. Highly recommended if you want to taste authentic dosa here.

Chennai express is one of the three quick bite food joints on St Catherine's Street. A great place for a quick bite, is halal & has a good selection on the menu, of South Indian food. We tried their masala dosa which was really good with crispy edges. But the sides of coconut chutney & sambar were just alright - we've had better. Nonetheless the flavour was good just a bit too watery for us. Their samosa is yummy & chai is great too. But the mayo-chilli side for samosas was a let down. It would have been great to have chutney with it. Definitely worth a visit if you're in downtown & looking for something tasty.
