Chartwell Avondale Retirement Residence

As a recent member of the Chartwell Avondale team, I was warmly welcomed by both my coworkers and the residents. I joined the team just before the new year as I was seeking opportunities in the culinary industry that would make me feel safe and welcome during these times. I was made aware of a vacant kitchen staff position and shortly after joined the Chartwell family. It is very evident that the Chartwell staff make their residents feel at home and I'm very happy that I can be a part of this experience. For those that are looking for a residence for themselves or for their family members, or even looking for work in retirement living, Chartwell Avondale would be the place of choice. Overall, it's a real joy to come to work everyday!

The managing staff made the transition for my dad easy and they were easy to communicate with. Lovely PSWs. Cheryl is the most accommodating and wonderful human.

Chartwell Avondale is attractive, well maintained and well located with convenient transit and businesses nearby. It is good value, and run with a positive environment for residents and staff. It has provided peace of mind and a safe haven at a challenging time for both our family members and society at large. We are reassured to know that there have been no COVID outbreaks there, and all residents were fully vaccinated before our mother moved in. Staff are professional, positive, cheerful and efficient, as well as knowledgeable, attentive, and understanding. The decision regarding a unit and the move in itself went very smoothly, thanks to the helpful staff not only making themselves available anytime for questions, but also anticipating many details. The whole transition process is well thought-out, with helpful documentation provided to the family. There is good communication and rapport among administrative staff, as well as between staff and residents and their circle of support. Our mother finds staff particularly friendly and helpful. They have a good attitude and will do extras for you and are fun to be with. The Kitchen is flexible and able to accommodate her special dietary needs, with wonderful serving staff and great food. She particularly loves the activity director and staff who clean her room. While living in her own suite, surrounded by her own furniture and things, she is happily gardening on a nearby deck. It is wonderful to know that she can continue to live as independently as possible in this supportive environment, and do so contentedly.

Avondale was our first choice when we were looking for a place for my aunt to live. It provides us with exactly what we were looking for: a warm, clean, safe and homey atmosphere, good food, lots of activities, and really friendly, supportive and caring staff. The Avondale location is great for us: our aunt is now within walking distance and we can easily visit with her.

My mother moved into the Avondale residence a few months ago and is truly thrilled with the staff and facilities. She has met new friends already and is quite involved with the various activities that are provided every day ! Big shout out to Cheryl Cadelina who made the transition from Bridgepoint to Avondale a breeze. Mom says the whole staff are outstanding and always kind and patient. The facility is also in town so surrounded by all kinds of amenities such as restaurants and local stores to shop in.

When I first started working as a receptionist at Chartwell Avondale, I was welcomed with open arms by my coworkers, managers and the residents. Working at Chartwell Avondale has been nothing short of amazing. I had planed on working here for just one summer but decided to stay because of how great the experience was. I'm very glad to be a part of the wonderful Chartwell family.

We moved my elderly mom from Vancouver so that she could be closer to us and the Avondale residence met all our needs. Our coordinator Cheryl was very helpful with all aspects of the move and that was deeply appreciated by our family. Avondale is a well-maintained residence and the staff has been very caring with my mom. I was relieved to see all the COVID protocols in place and I know that the staff works very hard to keep everyone safe. I would highly recommend this residence to others.

My mom moved across the country - from Calgary to Toronto to be closer to family after my father passed away. Although she was born in Toronto and lived in the city for many years, she hadn't been back in a few decades, so the move was a big change for her and quite overwhelming. We chose Chartwell Avondale because of its fantastic location and collection of amenities, including a fantastic outdoor terrace with downtown views. It's located right on Queen E. and so close to the Beaches, where mom loves to go for long walks. It's also within a quick drive or walk to grocery stores and all kinds of shopping and restaurants. The staff at Avondale has been tremendous and made mom's transition seamless. They are all so kind and caring. Plus, mom can't stop talking about the food - she loves it. There are plenty of activities and ample opportunities for socializing. It's also really nice to have the medical add-on component so that the nurses can give mom her medication and check her blood pressure, etc. I feel really confident that mom is well cared for here and it's wonderful to now have her so close to me. Cheryl at Avondale is fantastic. She helped us through the whole process of moving and picking out the right apartment for mom and she is so welcoming, helpful and friendly. Avondale has definitely been a great choice for mom! She doesn't want to ever leave.
