Cap-it Campbell River

I purchased a new Leer canopy in July of 2012 from Cap-It in Campbell River. After getting back home (two hours away on the North Island) after having Cap-It install the canopy on my truck, I found that it had been installed on the box crooked and I had to remove the clamps, pull it off the tape and reset it properly with the help of a friend. Also, I noticed there were several scratches in the automotive paint finish on the one side near the roof and the electrical (third bake) wiring had been done incorrectly and I had to redo this as well. After spending $2,300, I was not happy. After less than two months since I had purchased the canopy, the rubber seal around one of the side windows started peeling away from the window frame and one of the door locks on the rear canopy door malfunctioned and would no longer lock properly. I called Cap-It and Ross assured me these things were covered by warranty and he proceed to order a new window. After it came in, Ross called me and I booked an appointment to have the new window and door locks installed. Unfortunately, Cap-It does not have a "upper level" mechanic who works on Saturdays and so I had to bring the truck in on a weekday which meant taking a day off work given I live two hours from Campbell River. When I went in for my appointment, I dealt with the owner, Tyson (Ross' son). After pulling the truck out of the shop after the window was replaced, I brought it to Tyson's attention that the locks had not been replaced as his Dad said they would. I practically got into an argument with Tyson about this and I had to indicate to him that this item was also supposed to be looked after and I was assured by his Dad that it would be and to go try the left lock for himself to see, which he promptly did. Anyway, another truck had been pulled into the shop so Tyson replaced the door locks in the parking lot. While doing so, I noticed a large chip out of the canopy paint by the window that had just gotten replaced. When I mentioned it to Tyson, he looked at it and quickly concluded it was a rock chip and that Cap-It had not done it. I told him it was not there when I brought the truck in and showed teh mechanic the window and he was quick to dismiss me yet again. After Tyson told me the door locks had been completed, I inspect the work again. The sealant around the replaced window was not flush with the frame and was very sloppy looking. Also, the bed of the truck box which has a rubber bed rug in it, was messy with metal shavings and dirt even though it was extremely clean when I brought it in. Cap-It did nothing to clean up the truck after themselves. Even the new window had sealant film on it and needed to be properly cleaned when i got home. Bottom line: I purchased a Lear canopy to treat myself thinking I was getting the top brand name product for my new truck. This was my fifth canopy purchase over the years and I had more problems with it in the first two months than I had with all my previous canopies combined which were Arrows and Raiders. While Cap-It was responsive to the issues with my canopy, I can't help but think this was mostly because I dealt with the dad and not the son. Also, the various other issues made dealing with Cap-It Campbell River far more hassle than it is worth. I now do my truck accessory business with Hornby Canopy & Accessories in Nanaimo and could not be more pleased with the products and service I get there. They don't have the fancy franchise shop like Cap-It, but the pricing and service is far better. While it is more difficult to do business in Nanaimo given it is even further from my home than Campbell River, I have to say that it is worth it. I would not recommend Cap-It Campbell River given my experiences there and will definitely not be doing any further business with that company. Buyer beware.

A few years ago I purchased a tonneau cover, step bars, and a bed liner for my truck from Cap-It Campbell River. Recently I had an issue with my tonneau, still under warranty. Tyson was incredibly helpful in immediately providing a replacement part. He went out of his way to make sure I was happy. I will not hesitate to make Cap-It my first stop when looking for any future truck accessories. I can't recommend this place enough :)

Just installed a rack on my Canopy with the Thule 898 Hullavator Pro which assists you in lifting the kayak onto the roof. Not only did they do an amazing job they delivered the truck back to Courtenay. This is over and above service I highly recommend them thanks guys.

Phenomenal service and installation. Everyone at this location is friendly and knowledgeable. If you're looking at tops, toneau covers, hitches, Thule racks.. they know and stock it all.

I recently had a truck canopy installed in Campbell River and forgot to get the keys for the locks. We noticed it the next day, and that evening they delivered the keys to my door in Courtenay. Can't ask for better service. I would highly recommend this shop as they have excellent customer service, and of course, a great product.

Recently had a new Thule roof rack and Hulluvator pro's installed on our vehicle. Great service and kept us informed with our order. Was installed quickly and fully explained how to use the Hullavators. Would certainly recommend.

Helpful staff and surprised at the amount of inventory. Old guy at the front desk didn't treat my wife the greatest. Bad day? Install guy was excellent

Great install, but I had to vacuum and clean up my vehicle of the materials left behind from drilling.
