About Canterbury Foundation

Diann joined Canterbury as a Board Director from 2004 to 2010 and in 2012 completed a two year term as Board Chair.  She continued serving on a number of committees with Canterbury and in 2019 re-joined the Board as a Director.  She continues to sit on a number of committees including the adhoc Project Development Committee which she has been a member of since its inception.  After 47 years with the office of the Alberta Ombudsman, Diann retired in mid-2020, having started out as a clerk stenographer, then advancing into complaints investigation and ultimately completing her time with the Alberta Ombudsman as the Manager of Strategic Services.  She was the lead investigator on a number of investigations that ultimately made public, including an examination of the out of country health services system, the complaint fee structure of one of the province’s health colleges and the administrative fairness of the Mental Health Review Panel process.  Diann is passionate about administrative fairness in decision making and has spoken to a number of different organizations about the Alberta Ombudsman, including the 34th annual conference of the United States Ombudsman Association in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Diann has served and continues to serve in numerous leadership roles at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, one of Canterbury’s two founding parishes.  Diann and her husband Keith have two adult children and two (the third is scheduled to arrive in December 2020) grandchildren.

Fantastic! The staff is always caring, they let you visit your parents, grandparents unless they get sick or you get sick but that is perfectly fine! I love that my grandparents live here.

I had the pleasure of being able to work alongside The staff at Canterbury Foundation this spring. Although the conditions that we met were less than favourable, it was an unbelievable pleasure to collaborate with an amazing staff. I have personally never encountered such a dedicated staff that’s only priority was taking care of the residents that had been affected and inconvenienced. It was very refreshing to see how quick they reacted, assisted and relocated residents. Not only is the facility beautiful, but they constantly keep all residents busy with activities that enrich their lives. I have never experienced a facility that cares for the residents as if they were family. If doesn’t matter if it is the consideration shown from management, the patience portrayed by maintenance or friendliness felt by the on floor staff, you could not go wrong with the Canterbury Foundation.

My grandfather was in the Canterbury court and going into the hospital and ending up at the Good Samaritan was the best thing that could have happened to him. It’s a nice facility but a very low standard of care. Save your money!

This is a beautiful facility, but the standard of care was lacking. Feedback was not valued. Many promises were made when we placed Dad there that just never happened. If I knew then what I know now... I would not have placed my father there at any cost. We have since moved him and while the facility is not much to look at, we can finally sleep knowing that he is cared for and that if anything comes up we will hear from the staff and not get SOS calls from our loved one in the middle of the night.

Neglect. I know people that work here. They are understaffed. When their workers get to their point where they deserve a significant raise they fire them instead of keeping them. They have an entire new wing but they have not kept up staffing to support it. You might think this place is nice because it’s close and it’s in a nice neighborhood, nope it’s a for-profit money grabbing scheme.

If i could give this place 0 stars i would. They have very few staff who actually care about the residents. They are always understaffed, the food is horrendous and the communication is lacking to say the least. It is not worth the money you have tospend to live here. Do yourself and your loved one a favour and dont place them here.

We moved my mother into Canterbury a month and a half ago. The facility is lovely and everyone we have met inside has been great. My issue is with communication. Right from when we started considering this facility until the present, communication between management and our family has been inadequate. Multiple emails prior to the move were not responded to and many essential pieces of information were not provided to us prior to our move and since. A small example - no one advised us that my mother would need to isolate for 10 days in her room after move in. We were told of this by a fellow resident! While I certainly understand the rationale, it would have been nice to have been advised in advance so we could prepare her. Since then, I have written two letters - one to the executive director and one to Sacha (the person who seems to respond to these reviews) regarding our concerns. We have had absolutely no response.
