AUTO SERVICE UNABLE/UNWILLING TO DIAGNOSE BLOWN ALTERNATOR - REPLACED BATTERY 3 TIMES BEFORE I TOOK MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. We had a terrible experience with the Auto Service department a couple weeks ago. Our car broke down en route to Drumheller on Friday and we had it towed to this store. Junior Mechanic diagnosed a bad battery. I asked if the alternator was working - Mechanic said he had scanned it and yes it was working. After picking up car, it died again on the way to the museum. Limped back to Canadian Tire where mechanic said it must have been a bad battery and replaced it again. I asked to have the alternator double checked again - he said yes he did and it was working well. I took the car, let it idle for a couple hours, and then drove it around the parking lot where it died again. Mechanic came out and offered to take it inside for the night, and made all kinds of promises to have some senior mechanics look at it because it was unlikely that another battery was bad. Came back the next morning, the same mechanic saw me coming and ran away to avoid talking to me. I was handed to a surly guy at the counter, who said that they had diagnosed another bad battery. I tried to push on whether the alternator was actually tested, but he gave 1 word answers or actually just stared at the ground and didn't answer my question. He tried to charge me for the newest battery even though it was replaced again on warranty. Even after correcting that, he insisted on charging me for another battery swap. He said he was going to 'give his battery guys heck' and 'wishes his guys would get their sh*t together" and 'I'm going to lose my sh*t first thing Monday morning". I then took the car next door to the Honest Mechanic people since it was now Monday, and they promptly diagnosed a bad alternator. We were stuck in town for an extra two days waiting for repairs. So - is this Canadian Tire simply just incapable of diagnosing a bad alternator, or are they also dishonest? I am not sure. For sure they do not understand Alternators. Also, the work culture & communication seem like a major problem.

Nice place. A bit on the smaller side but they always have what I need when I come camping out here. The employee are pretty friendly as well, and made good conversation with them. Store is pretty clean but the automatic doors desperately need to be replaced. They are pretty old, and are very slow at opening, and closing. Please fix this in my next visit.

Completely awful treatment by (I presume) the manager (9:00 am Sunday) who loudly reprimanded one of her staff for sharpening our son’s skates right when they opened. We were there for a tournament and desperately needed to get his skates done quickly as he needed to be on the ice at 9:30. She first yelled to us from the back that there was “a lot of people in line” (there was one person ahead of us who was also from our team) She didn’t realize that we could also clearly hear her yelling at the guy who was sharpening our skates and saying she would have “refused” to sharpen them if it were her. No idea why she was so upset about providing a service they offer. Very poor and unprofessional behaviour.
