This place is a hidden gem. The falls itself is not too spectacular compared to some of the other ones in the area but if you’re daring enough to climb down, it’s less busy and has a wonderful photo opportunity at the base of the falls. You can even walk behind the falls too. Once you get down there, it’s very safe because the water level is extremely low and there isn’t too much water falling down the falls. It’s just a light stream of water so you can touch the water and all. The climb down is not for everyone though. You’ll need to get your hands dirty by holding on top rocks and branches when you go down. Beware of the acorns and acorn shells as you walk down. If you step on them, they can be slippery!! I’ve seen some toddlers go down too, but only the daring ones and you’ll need to keep a close eye on them to make sure they’re safe. It’s NOT a paved path down. At times, you’ll need to pull yourself up a bit to get back. Wear proper shoes! If you’re in sandals, flats, etc, it will be extremely dangerous so don’t do it!

Buttermilk Falls this month is very dry and we still enjoy the hike. We did a hike around the Albion Falls area (about 6km) is a great way to take in the views. Park at Buttermilk Falls in the Oak-Knoll parking lot, which is on Mountain Brow Blvd north of Limeridge Road E. The landscape is wonderful.

Waterfall ain’t that great but it’s a short walk from the parking spot. Skipping this won’t cost you anything.Very less water, no real space to actually spend some time there. Can be in n out in 15 mins. Should be beautiful in fall though.

Hidden Perfection until after we planned our trips today we found Buttermilk falls by accident. We loved the area, the sights, the fall colors, the trails and most of all the falls. Small but very nice. The area was so quiet and not busy even on Thanksgiving holiday weekend. A few couples passed us and we all had the same ideas of family photos overlooking the area of falls colors.

I will give this place an average rating- only because you are not allowed to go to the fall and need to view it from afar, so beats the purpose "of visiting a fall". The trail walk to the fall is actually better and worth it, beautiful for pictures and some silence. You are expected to follow the marked trail only else you are faced with a fine, however I did notice a bunch of people take the unmarked path.

We decided to make a hike of it, so we parked at the Escarpment Rail Trail parking lot, crossed Mountain Brow Blvd and followed a trail which takes you slowly down to the creek bed. Then we followed the creek all the way to the falls. This is NOT a drive-by look-see. We enjoyed the nature hike and the final destination was satisfying. Proper attire is recommended, since you will negotiate a variety of challenges along the creek, like tree trunks, rocks, water and mud. Grab something to use as a walking stick. Those only looking to step out of their car and take a photo should look elsewhere, like the nearby Albion Falls.
