About Bow Waters Canoe Club

We have our own clubhouse and paddling dock alongside the irrigation canal in the heart of Calgary. We have a fleet of canoes and stand-up paddleboards available for use by members on the canal or on club trips. We rely on our experienced volunteer coordinators to organize approximately 50 river paddling trips per year. These trips are mainly on local rivers and range in difficulty from beginner to advanced and from short day trips to long weekend family camping trips. We have contracted with Rocky Mountain Paddling to provide recognized paddling skill development and safety training courses for our members, and most of these courses are subsidized by the club. In addition, we support an annual program which introduces thousands of high school students and youth groups to the sport of paddling. Throughout the year, the club organizes slide shows and social events where members and guests can get to know each other and learn more about the types of paddling trips that are available. As members develop their paddling skills and make new friends within the club, they sometimes team up and organize their own longer private summer paddling expeditions to more remote destinations.

The club currently has about 150 members and is managed by a volunteer board of directors and member volunteers. We always welcome new ideas and new members, especially families.

We can’t wait to see you at a monthly meeting and more importantly on the river!

Thanks,

BWCC Board

Nice dog park, but construction nearby has left the road to the parking lot in really bad shape.

I have been a member of the Bow Waters Canoe Club for about 30 years. I have met many interesting and enjoyable people there over the years, and have done many great canoe trips as a result.

Super great place to start learning slalom kayaking, the current isn't too fast and the course is easy to paddle back up. Harvie passage is also just across the road for an easy step up into harder whitewater. Overall, a great spot to get into slalom!

I've not joined the club. I just use the boat launch for canoeing in the canal. Access is usually easy unless there's an event going on. Usually ample parking. It's pretty secluded and I've seen some people of questionable reputation, so be cautious. It's popular with dog owners.

It's a great little spot for a walk in the day time. It appears that the canal will fill with water in the summer, however in the spring and winter it is more a mud puddle than a boat launch. It may not be a great place to visit at night alone. Lots of garbage and evidence of people living rough in the area as well. So, I would suggest a large dog and a friend would make for a better experience.
