Doug Boland, the owner of Boland Mechanical Contractors Ltd. is a certified master plumber and gasfitter who started his apprenticeship in 1980. During his career as a journeyman plumber and gasfitter in Calgary, he has worked on many large new construction projects such as Banker's Hall, the Young Offenders Correctional Center, local schools, industrial facilities, custom architecturally designed residential homes, multi family condominium projects and commercial tenant developments. His decades of experience make him a trusted expert. Plumbing and gasfitting run in the Boland family veins.
Doug's father was a journeyman plumber and gasfitter for over 50 years, to which Doug learned more than a few tricks of the trade from his father. Being a veteran plumber, Doug cut his professional teeth back before plastic piping was as prevalent as it is today. His skills at repairing obsolete piping, equipment and other "old school" systems are a must-have for owners of older homes and apartment buildings.
From new construction to major renovations to the smallest repairs, Boland Mechanical have experience in many aspects of the industry. We service and maintain a lot of buildings that are nearly 100 years old with the original piping and heating in them, with the proper skill and knowledge, these old systems can continue to operate. With all this said, Doug and his team have just as much experience with new and improved methods that keep up with modern developments that will benefit the customer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Boland Mechanical has done work at our house ever since we renovated 20 years ago. They provided plumbing and gas fitting services during our renovation, and have provided those services to us ever since. More recently they have started to provide HVAC services. They have always provided first class work in a timely manner at a reasonable price. A couple of recent examples. On December 27, 2020 our kitchen sink backed up. Not sure if anyone would be working on a day that many would have taken off in lieu of Christmas or Boxing Day, I contacted Doug to see if we could get help with the sink. Within a couple of hours Rob was there, and he spent nearly 6 hours, to 8:00 pm, augering out the drain in our basement. More recently James installed a new furnace in our house. For the first time since we bought our house 30 years ago (including a new furnace installed 15 years ago by a major Calgary HVAC company), we have heat properly and evenly distributed throughout our house. We will not use anyone else for our plumbing, gas fitting and HVAC needs.

Determined it was a problem with municipal water and no visit required, saving both time and money! Will definetely be using Boland Mechanical for any future plumbing needs.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Boland Mechanical was hired by the previous owners of my home to repair 2 faulty items from the pre-possession inspection - the hot water tank was leaking at the relief valve and the furnace was not starting properly. The previous owners paid for the servicing and we assumed everything was fixed. After we got possession, it turned out that neither problem was fixed. I was able to fix the valve issue myself, but we called on Boland Mechanical to look at the furnace again. The technician came over and spent a few hours diagnosing the problem. In the end, the fix came down to simply rotating the fuel gas valve to a different orientation. Despite the simple fix, I was charged a hefty price tag for 5-hours of labour, plus multiple part changes that were performed during the diagnosis that weren't actually the root cause of the problem. This was very disappointing considering these were issues that the previous owners were supposed to repair (and pay for) as part of the home sale conditions. I explained my frustrations to Doug, and he did offer me a 1-hr labour discount on my bill. I didn't think that was enough, hence the poor review. Outside of these issues, I will say that they were very responsive and timely, and the technician was friendly and nice to deal with.

Boland has always provided us with good options and quality advice when we had any questions prior and during the installation. Their staff has always been very knowledgeable during the installation of the water heater and the servicing of our furnace. Every time they worked in our house they left the work area clean.
