Blue Chip Decks - Winnipeg

I don’t remember the last time I posted a review on a project we had done for us or something that we purchased but after having our deck built by Blue Chip Decks I felt the experience of dealing with the Blue Chip Staff deserved posting a review. From the start of the process of getting ideas and quotes from various deck builders my wife and I felt that Blue Chip was putting that extra effort into working with us, meeting our needs and trying to make suggestions to meet our budget limits. Calvin took care of this side of the process for the company. He was friendly, had good suggestions and was patient with our back and forth questions on design and cost concerns. With us not having a set in stone design in our mind, Calvin was able to take our general “want to haves” and some logistic concerns we had with the area in our yard that the deck was to be built and come up with a design that we were very pleased with and meet our needs. The part that we most appreciated from the planning stage was that Calvin kept giving us 3D model drawings (from multiple different angles) to help us better visualize what the final product would look like. We found this tremendously helpful in designing the deck and settling on a finished product. It also helped us when choosing what possibly would have to be deleted, if we wanted to stay within the budget we had set ourselves. On to the construction, Trevor was professional and courteous. Along with Ali (also professional and courteous), they both arrived promptly at the start of their work day and put in a long day of craftsmanship to get the deck finished in a timely manner without sacrificing the quality of the finished deck. Their attention to detail as I watched the deck be built was very reassuring that we had made a very good decision in picking Blue Chip Decks as our deck builder. As with any big project some issues came up during the actual construction that is difficult to always anticipate during the planning stage. These were no problem for Trevor to come up with a work around that did not change (in a negative way) what we had wanted the deck to look like. If anything, it would wind up being an improvement on the overall look and functionality of the deck. When my wife and I would ask for something to be changed during the construction it was never an issue. Trevor would say “if you’re happy, I’m happy” and proceed to make the change. There was never any talk of “well that wasn’t what was agreed upon prior to starting” or “that will cost you extra”. It was just done to our satisfaction. Some things got changed even when I thought they could have possibly been left and would have looked fine. As an example, Ali and Trevor had a deck board pattern in mind as to how the overall deck look was going to flow. In one section it didn’t work out the way they had hoped I guess, as I could see them discussing it between themselves. It looked fine to me but the next thing I saw was the 2 of them taking that section apart and redoing it. The overall “LOOK” was that important to them. You could see the pride in workmanship over and over through the building of the deck. From the way they choose the straightness of the boards they were working with, to the way they kept the work site clean. It was a pleasure to watch them work and refreshing to see that there are still people that want to do a good quality job. My wife and I feel that our new deck is solidly built and looks GREAT !! We would not hesitate to recommend Blue Chip Decks to anyone that is interested in having a quality deck built. Sincerely, Alice and Brian

Excellent end result! I found Calvin and Trevor to be really responsive and it was easy to communicate my concerns (every major reno has its up's and down's but they remained quite responsive throughout). It was big project (which took a while- no fault of the team) but in the end it was worth it. Excellent end result- great workmanship. Everyone involved was great but aside from Trevor and Calvin I need to mention Ali and Ashley- both excellent workers (friendly and trustworthy). I highly recommend this company. I would be happy to provide a reference if further information is required.

We've been dealing with a few companies for home renovations and sometimes it can be like pulling teeth to get information or someone to show up even after you've put a couple thousand down. Definitely not the case with Blue Chip. From start (planning with Calvin) to construction and finish, Blue Chip was fantastic. We love the product which we were able to tweak to our specifications. The construction team was on-time and professional. Definitely good value for the dollar (recent lumber prices notwithstanding!). We'd happily work with them again in the future.

After interviewing a few deck companies, I made my decision to go with Blue Chip Decks. Best decision ever! They were incredible. From the design process, to the finishing touches, and everything in between. Thanks to Calvin, Trevor and their amazing crew! They were on on time, professional and talented! We had Blue Chip build a three-season sunroom and deck with cutout for hot tub. Their detail-oriented approach, high quality work, and friendly staff were all much appreciated. They were very responsive to our feedback; whenever there was a concern, they immediately made it right. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I was asked by Calvin to write a review on Blue Chip Decks that had gone on building a Duradek in our house. I was so pleased with their professionalism, experience, and skills that I took a longer than usual amount of time I normally take to write a customer review, so I don’t miss anything that should be said. 1. Project planning: I started contacting Blue Chip Decks in December 2020. Our house has a walkout basement and therefore, the deck needs to be built from the upper level. Calvin organized zoom- and phone-meetings several time to walk me through the design & architecture, and cost. He is sincere to and prompt in responding to customers, and sometimes he replied to my questions and emails in late evening. 2. Pricing: Blue Chip Decks provided me a reasonable and feasible quote on Duradek. I contacted a couple of deck builders in 2019, and they informed me that the quote might increase by 10-20% depending on the inflated cost of materials in the summer. Blue Chip Decks did not charge me any extra $$$, though the lumber price was doubled to tripled during the spring. I did not pay extra when I requested for additional changes in the design while the project was ongoing. They were so accommodating! 3. Trevor & his crew: These guys are extremely talented and hard working. They know what they need to do for you – they will go with every cm to inch scale of measurement to make your deck built perfect. The crew used to show up at around 7:30 am and worked till 6:00/7:00 pm every day. They have had a big project done within the anticipated timeline. They work tirelessly until they are contended on their own scale of satisfaction with a task. They are simply superb with their work ethics. 4. Payment: The installment payment on an invoice is easy to process through credit card that accumulates some points on a purchase. This is unique, as many of the deck builders do not give this option. The invoices and payments can be easily tracked online. Thanks to Blue Chip Decks; I feel so thankful to you guys every time, when I see my 3.5 years old daughter happy running on the beautifully done Duradek! Wish you guys all the best!

After looking around at multiple places we decided to go with BueChipDecks for our new backyard deck project. Calvin, Trevor and Co were an absolute pressure to do business with. We were able to incorporate our dream and vision for a deck with Calvin’s expertise. Digital planning definitely helped us finalize the plan.
