This fishing spot goes back a century. People from the area went to Black Creek to get smelts. Used to be a time when there were 50 or more people there fishing, netting, smelts because it was free food and healthy too. Barbutts, Catfish were also caught and pickled back in the day. Fishing at night, tires were burned to keep the mosquitoes away after dark. So the fires provided light and bug protection. When I was young, people were very very glad to be able to provide their families with food and the kids all picked blueberries for mom. Today this creek fishing spot is known far and wide. A fellow from Sarnia asked around in Espanola for directions to " that famous Black Creek Fishing spot".And HE FOUND IT! More people know about Black Creek Bridge, than they know about West Bay, Lake Panache. But if you follow this road, and when there is a right hand turn, that will take you out to Mountain Cove Lodge on Lake Panache. The tourist camp there usually have signs that you can follow. I am attempting to get this very old tourist lodge put onto google maps. The problem at this time, is that therevis no street number in the forest and on remote lakes, there is novpostal code available. Tourist camps usually get Post Office Boxes or use care of General Delivery. How does one mark a Tourist Camp on a map when you have no "category" for Tourist Camps. What can I do for happy campers, looking for Mountain Cove Lodge on Lake Panache west of Walker Dam, which keeps the waterlevel of this huge recreational lake level fairly constant. You can catch Cat Fish at the Black Creek Fishing Pier.

Love this place as it holds such cherished memories of fishing with my dad and mom and our uncles. A place where I used to catch barbuts for my uncle George and when my uncle Moses came yearly it was a must in Canada day! Dad used to love fishing here & it’s where he taught my boys to do the same. If you pay a visit go to the pier and relax on the bench in his memory. You will see a beautiful bench and plaque. I love to see pictures that people post enjoying the bench too.. Miss you like crazy dad.
