Beardsell Guitar Workshop - Winnipeg

What gives these guitars their singular tone -- so remarkably, room-slayingly loud; so rich, so complex and tasty -- is actually the same thing that makes them straight up the most comfortable guitars you'll ever play.

It all goes back to Al's original napkin sketch of the signature 4G body style: The lower bout was larger, but the bridge was positioned further back, taking maximum vibrational advantage of the larger surface area, while at the same time effectively moving the neck and headstock closer to the player.

The end result is a guitar that actually feels more comfortable to play than a small-body, but has more sonic projection and complex tonality than an uncomfortably portly axe. It's Al-chemy, dude!

I can't describe how much I appreciate the work that Lucas and Al do at Beardsell. This is the go-to shop in Winnipeg if you are looking for high quality work with transparency and quick turnaround. Lucas recently rescued a guitar that I had been waiting for months to get over to them. It took a week to transform a totally unplayable instrument that had been abandoned for decades into a true joy. The setups are top notch and finish on repairs are flawless. Also, if you are looking for a custom guitar to be built, I've played a few coming out the shop and there is clearly a very strong emphasis on build quality and using great tonewood combinations. This is what a guitar shop should be.

What can I say, these guys are amazing. I requested a pickup replacement and a full mono-to-stereo rewire of my bass. The technicians consulted me every step of the way to make sure that the bass fit my specifications. Importantly, both technicians were hands-down experts on guitar craftsmanship, but didn't try to flex their knowledge or make me feel uninformed. Also, they provided honest and accurate cost estimates before any work was done. In my experience, this is rare in the luthier industry, and I am very glad the staff at Beardsell are honest. They were kind, helpful, and humble. I have already recommended these guys to my bandmates and friends, and I encourage anyone who needs luthier work to consult Beardsell & Co.

I brought my Martin in for a setup, and Lucas did an excellent job. He walked me through the process thoroughly, and made a new saddle, as the original was too low. Rates were very reasonable, and the turnaround time was quick. My favorite guitar just got better! Top notch work, and I would not hesitate to bring my most valuable instruments to this shop.

I've used Beardsell many times in the last 2-3 years and they always do amazing work. I feel safe taking expensive or vintage instruments there because I know they will be handled with expert care; but they've always treated lower end instruments with the same level of respect. Their attention to detail and pride in their work is easy to see... and much appreciated!

I rarely post reviews but Beardsell Guitar Workshop deserves 5 stars. Lucas was great to work with and he only did the necessary repairs at a very reasonable cost on my acoustic guitar. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing guitar work!

I've taken three guitars here for a set-up. With the first two the work was great, and turn-around time was quick. The 3rd one needed some fret sprout filed, and I was disappointed with the job, to say the least. I can forgive the lack of polishing, but the file gouges into the fretboard edge and sanding through the neck finish (and metal shavings still stuck to the pick-ups) was a big disappointment. Unfortunately it was not just the one fret that came back looking like this, but about half of them. When the guitar was in better condition before a set-up, it's a bad sign. I'm still giving them 2 stars because the work on my other two guitars was flawless, but I'm not going back.

Lucas did an exceptional job refretting my 70’s Guild Starfire IV. The work is top notch and it was done exactly on time at a reasonable cost. The difference after the refret is night and day, so worthwhile. I’ll definitely be back!

I had a about a 1 inch ding in the body of my guitar near the jack plate. the nitrocellulose finish was chipped and the colouring that on the chip was off the body ..bare wood exposed . I brought it in to let them give me an estimate and to see if it was possible to repair . Beardsell said yes and 2 weeks later the job was complete well beyond my expectations .The quote was so reasonable that i bought 2 of their T-shirts . The only place to bring your guitar in Winnipeg .
