I would like to share a legitimate review about a family business which I trust and have a good relationship with. Barry Hamel and the employees are wonderful people and their experience and knowledge in the welding industry is second to none.

If you're looking for a place to rip you off then you've found the right place. I initially took my welder in to get repaired but was told the cost of fixing it would exceed its value. In hindsight, I believe the machine was falsely assessed. Barry Hamel proceeded to upsell a used welder they had on hand that was "recently serviced and in great condition." I was hesitant at first but was told it was an amazing deal and one that’s hard to come by. I purchased the welder and in less than 22 hours, it completely broke down. I spoke to various associates at Barry Hamel but they said there was nothing they could do - "it's a used machine, what can we say?" were their exact words. I got the machine assessed by another welding company and was told the welder was far beyond repair. When they took it apart they noticed critical pieces of the machine to be either missing or in critically poor shape. Their professional opinion was, "there's no way they were unaware of these problems when they serviced the machine - they should be ashamed of themselves." I realize purchasing a used machine is risky but having it break down in 22 hours is ridiculous. I would not recommend this place to anyone – it’s a dishonest company that lacks integrity.

In response to the recent experience related to vehicle issues at the parking lot, Steve Curr, the General Manager of Barry Hamel, Coquitlam branch would like to provide an update on behalf of the Company. Steve was physically present at the office during the time of the said incident and was closely monitoring the whole situation over the CCTV and even came several times to the front desk area. For the individual’s claim on the so called β€˜worst experience’ we would like to reconfirm that no prior consent or request was made to use the parking lot for repair, which is a private property of the company allocated for the customers of welding products including medical gases. The statement that the individual was β€˜outside the parking lot’ is an absolutely misleading. All the employees at the office had seen that the car was parked at a handicapped spot on a side-wise manner and thus blocked the parking lot for others to arrive in. After seeing the car, our respective inside sales representative went outside and requested to move to a standard parking stall as it had blocked the handicapped parking lot and wrongly placed. But he refused and started confronting to our sales rep. No sign of β€˜swearing’ or β€˜racism’ was shown by our sales rep. At one point, when the individual declined to move out at all, our sales rep took the tire iron inside the office reassuring that it will be given back if he moves his car to the standard parking stall. The individual called the RCMP and our sales rep moved inside the office. Surprisingly the individual at one point came inside the office, confronted with our sales rep and said that β€˜he has COVID -19’ and hoped that our official should also have the virus!. All of our colleagues inside the office were shocked and appalled by the rude behavior of the individual. After a while, the RCMP appeared at the spot and after investigating the incident advised the individual to leave the parking lot immediately. Barry Hamel is considered as a one-stop shop for welding and gases products throughout BC since 1954 as a registered first nation company with utmost honesty, integrity, trust, and mutual respect. We are well known the industry for our close relationship with the customers; from large government clients to individual small fabricators - all are highly satisfied with our very knowledgeable and multicultural employees. We are committed to ensure our values and continue to keep our image in the market. At the same time, we want to reemphasize that any attempt to shatter or distort our reputation or image to the market will be handled carefully according to the law of the land. I am very impressed with the service department. I purchased a welder at an auction that was faulty. I brought it to Barry Hamel. Once the technicians looked at it they realized that they had seen the same machine in the shop and it was shot. They helped me provide proof to the auction company that this was the case. Al, the service manager was very helpful. I was able to get a refund thanks to Al and Barry Hamel.

Tate the shipper was super helpful today and very polite. I was considering going over to kms tools but with his help I've decided to use Barry hamel for my gas needs now.

Professional welder. Been using these guys because they are close to my house. But their refill prices are more expensive than anybody else. And their customer service is not that great. I just exchanged a cylinder and it has a company's name on the cylinder. They also charge $6 for Regulatory Compliance fee on top of the $66 to fill up a 125 cylinder. Complete rip-off. They were reluctant to accept a special they had on their website. In this day and age you should know what's on your website. You are not priced competitive. You are 30% more than any other gas supplier. To put a coat of paint over a company's name so your customers have their own bottle is not difficult to do. You chose to take the easy way. More profit! Thank you for the generic copy and paste reply. Shows how much you care about customers! I will not refill or buy any supplies from Barry Hamel again! I recommend that people follow. There are way better suppliers that care about quality and service!

I witnessed a guy from this store come out and harass a guy for changing his tire. With everything going on in this world is changing a tire really that big of a deal. Especially when its time for the store to close an everyone to go home for the day. I shook my head at the guy as i walked by. The gentleman from the store showed what kind of person he really is. My company gets Barry Hamel to refill our welding gas. After what I saw today were never coming here again. No one deserves to be treated the way the young boy was. He wasn't doing any harm or damage to the property, he was just changing his tire.

I order supplies and different gas cylinders from Barry Hamel on a regular basis. My main point of contact is Amanda, who is always very helpful. On a number of occasions, she has explained product variations or given me details that increase my knowledge and allow me to make more informed decisions. Whether I need to set up a delivery, a pick-up or get pricing, Amanda always responds quickly. I have also dealt with the shipping department and the drivers and found them all to be helpful.
