I stayed in Aventa for the six week program and it was amazing. I decided I wanted to do the program twice. I wanted to have three months clean and sober before I came back to Edmonton. The staff are very understanding there and helped me in so many ways. The rooms where you stay are very cozy and very comfortable. There are lots of fun things to go like crafts, movies, karaoke, knitting, etc. There are in house meeting such as ABA, NA, AA. I am still in contact with some of the girls who were in my group. They are also still going well. Aventa staff were like my family, I miss them dearly. But because of them I went from being an addict for 13 years and a daily user to almost 6 months clean and sober. The look on everything in my life is amazing, I would not of done this and got this far without Aventa. I will continue to do well and succeed with my sobriety for ever!! Thank you all so much. I miss and love you all Laura Pearson

At first it's hard to adjust to. The staff seem like they're against you and you're not allowed to do anything. But when you think about it, there is a method to everything they do. Yes we are responsible for cleaning up after ourselves, making our beds, etc. It makes sense. The food is really good. Could use a little more variety but hey we don't have to cook and it still tastes good. We get Netflix and computer time. Tonnes of crafts. Classes are very structured and councillors offer a tonne of material. Lots of meditation options. Group walks almost every day. Smoking whenever you want. Strict bed time, but if you can't sleep you're allowed to stay up and read in the common area. You're allowed to bring your own snacks (non perishable). They have a gym inside or a path to walk around. Beds aren't even that uncomfortable once you get used to them. Showers have hot water most of the time (just don't shower at the same time as everyone else which is usually 7-8am). Residential staff is always there to listen or joke around with you if you're feeling sad or lonely. There is toast and cereal at snack time at night. There are two nurses on staff. You can skype your friends and family. Phone times are pretty relaxed. It's frustrating at first, but once you get in the rythym Aventa is amazing and I miss it so much!

Wow. you can tell who is bitter by reading these reviews! It is an adjustment yes, but I was living an addicitive lifestyle. Treated like a child? More like having me be responsible while I was there. I learned quick on how to comprmise when there is so many to a bathroom. But you know what? It is a clean, nice place with staff available when I really needed it. you can tell the staff care, both the residntial and addiction counselors, I mean I would never work with 30 versions of myself! haha I wished there was more staff somethimes, but it did make me build relationships with the other girls - somthing I have not done in a long time. Overall, my expereince was really good. I learned can have positve relationships and now I can handle feelings I never thought I could. I cant ay how much having the structure has helped me stay on my recovery road. I still pratcie affirmations when I get stinking thinking! - Thank you linda! I am sad that I cant go celebrate my 2 years that is next week with aventa alumnae like it used to be. Go! you deserve a fair shot of being who you can be!

I graduated aventa in June 2020 and it was a really positive experience. Yes u can expect a lot of routine but I didn't have that in my life before and I needed to learn how to live in a healthy way. The building is clean, the meals and food there was so great I miss it! You can bring your own snacks and everything too! Staff treated me with respect and everyone works hard to help the women there. The counsellors were really kind and actually care a lot about the clients. For women going in remember u get out what you put into the program! Staff give feedback to help you see the problems so you can make a change, and it's hard work! If I didn't go there I would have never got clean and stayed clean! Thank you aventa!!!

The staff and management are outstanding! I was there in 2012 for six weeks. The food was nutritious and delicious! At that time everyone was trained in all the topics that we needed to cover.. The outcome of your visit depends mainly on your attitude and willingness to cooperate and open your mind and heart for improvement This was nine years ago and it really helped me get a better grip and understanding of life and people May God continue to bless Aventa.

I had to fight for at least a month with staff to be served vegetarian substitute for meals with beef because they didn’t believe me i don’t eat it for religious reasons and thought i was just being picky. I was literally instructed to just take the beef off my food on more than one occasion.

This place literally saved my life. Kirsty was my councillor and she really knows her stuff. I’m not saying that you’ll be completely perfect and healed once you get out. Recovery will always be work but this place gives you the best tools to do so. When you know better you do better.

If I could rate a zero I would but it wouldn’t allow me. The staff lie to me about what it would be like for me. There was a lot of violence, and bullying when I was there. I was in the room with two other girls. Our bathroom was down at the end of the hallway. One of the girls in my room was being threatened by a few other ladies, so it was very hard to sleep at night thinking they were coming in to get her. The programs that we did we’re not helpful, and very juvenile. A very terrible experience, I ended up leaving early and coming home. There’s no way I could get better with all the chaos going on. Terrible terrible place
