Our Story
October 17th, 2019 marked the 40th anniversary of Aura Hair Group’s flagship salon, St. Vital Unisex. Founding members Pat Potenza, Michele Santarsieri, Tony Santarsieri, Rocco Macchia and Pasquale Martino, emigrated from Italy and all brought the same dreams, dedication, and strong work ethic, which was the backbone of their business.
As their families and passion grew, so did their business, with Aura Hair Salons, Revolutions Salon + Spa and Modern Man Barbershops, which soon followed.
Each partner brought their talent as stylists to educate, mentor and inspire their families and hairstylists throughout Winnipeg. They landed weekly space in the WINNIPEG FREE PRESS with “The Image Makers” and styling local CBC television actors, as well as travelled the world attending and competing in World Championship hair shows. The care they have for every client was the seed that grew into 13 salons and barbershops in Winnipeg and 2 in Vancouver.
There have been countless opportunities for the founders and their teams to build in Winnipeg. The relationships over the decades allowed them to be a part of their clients lives and their ever-changing styles. This dream which carried overseas, now employs over 350 stylists and has a presence in every major shopping centre in Winnipeg.
This city gave us, our families, and our teams the opportunity to follow our passion and help thousands of clients feel and look their best over the past 40 years.

Ask for Neha (sp?). Every time I go in she makes me look great, and I'm normally a 6 on a good day, so you know she's talented as hell.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Brought my dad here to get a hair cut as a walk in.
They said he's next and the wait wouldn't be long.
However another guy walked in the salon, as a walk in as well, and they skipped my dad and took the other guy in.
Don't know if it was racism as my dad is Indigenous and the other walk in was visibly Caucasian.
The last time my dad went here they also didn't wash his hair, yet they washed everyone else's hair for their cut.
If I could I would give them negative review.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had my hair colored here, it was a great experience. The lady who did my hair was awesome, I believe her name was Rosalee, very nice and professional. Really enjoyed the whole experience! Went in a few days ahead to make sure they had the colour I was looking for, and they went above and beyond to make sure they got extra in before my appointment.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have went to Aura (Garden City)for many years and have always been pleased but yesterday I had my haircut by Anthony who was obviously very new at cutting hair. My hair is crooked, way shorter then what I asked for, I have long pieces every where. My hair was still wet when I left so I didn’t really notice anything until I got home. I phoned to let them know how unsatisfied I was, all they told me was well come back and he can fix it. Why would I want the same person who screwed up in the first place to cut my hair again. I am very embarrassed of how I look and will have to wear a hat until it grows a bit. Aura shouldn’t have never let someone that inexperienced cut peoples hair or at least tell customer they are new. Me and my family will never come back.

She started straightening my hair damp and when I asked her to dry it more she said “no it’s okay to straighten damp hair as long as it doesn’t sizzle”. This is not right and not okay. It’s a shame when the client knows more than the “professional”. Will not be coming back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Decided last minute to get my hair cut. They were able to fit me in right away even though they were busy. I got my hair washed and cut by Solange and she was noticeably excited to be giving me a bob. Great experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It has always been hit and miss going there but this last time was the worst and the last time. My hair was cut by a girl, Amanda. I spent 2 years growing out my hair and specifically said no more then 2 inches off in length. She cut more like 5 or more! I asked for shaggy long layers so my hair would have movement and layers around my face so it didn't just hang there. I could not see what she was doing because I had my glasses off or i would have said something sooner. As you can see in the photo this is the cut I got. Looks like a weed wacker cut my hair! I was so mortified and in shock not only by how much she cut off but by how horrible it looked that I didn't say anything at the time but I will be calling tomorrow to complain.
UPDATE: I called the manager to complain, he was very nice about it. He arranged for a master stylist to try to fix it. I also received a GC for a free haircut.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am a regular at Modern Man, I was referred to Aura by my regular barber as I wanted a specific dye job. I was at Aura being serviced by Gloria. Seemed friendly and rather nice but unfortunately I can't say I am pleased with the service here. I booked an appointment over a month in advance, marked it in my calendar and showed up 15 minutes early for my scheduled time at 3:00pm. A mother and her two small daughters came by mistakenly believing their appointment was during my slot, but it was scheduled for the next day. Gloria squeezed them in and cut and curled the two young girls hair during my slot and paid less attention servicing me. As a result, the dye job didn't turn as favorably as it could have and I was there much longer than needed for one dye application. It should have taken me 1.5 hours, the first dye job was not finished until 6pm. There was no time to apply another layer to lighten it up because I had a flight to catch at 9:15. I told Gloria this and she asked me, "why did you book everything today?". My slot was at 3pm and that should have left plenty of time. I wish she had asked me if it was okay to fit those 2 girls during my slot and I would have told her then, however she proceeded without asking me. Rather unprofessional, if you ask me.
The staff in the front end were pleasant and friendly and in Gloria's defence, the 2 small girls were adorable and they and their mother seemed like regulars. This was my first experience with Aura and I could have been a regular too. However, I will need to dye again and I am hesitant to give this location another shot.
