Located just an hour SW of Calgary we offer horseback riding from 2 hours to 7 day trips to satisfy the cowboy in everyone - top quality horses and cabins for rent.
About Anchor D Guiding & Outfitting Ltd.
Trail riding is the perfect way to get a taste of cowboy life when you only have a bit of time to spare or are new to horseback riding. Be our guest for two or three hours of horseback riding in the breathtaking high foothills that surround our ranch. The trails will take you all the way to the top of ridges, treating you to scenic trails and overlooks along the way. Or you can splash across the Sheep River to explore even more incredible country, before winding your way back to the ranch.
Be sure to bring your camera because you will certainly want to snap pictures of the Rocky Mountains, foothills and prairies that you will encounter along the way.
If you would like to bring along a water bottle, you are welcome to do so.

The horses we're excellent and sure footed on the steep terrain, the wranglers and crew were very welcoming, friendly and great company, and the terrain and views we're amazing. We will be back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We recently returned from staying at Anchor D. We rented Grandpa's cabin for a few days and did a mountain day ride. I can not say enough about how down to earth Dewey is. His team of staff are hard working and pleasant. (I would not suggest the full day ride for beginners or younger children.) We have some experience with horses and found the day ride to be wonderful but don't kid yourself, we were tired by the end of the day. The lady from Ft. McMurray (another wrangler) was compassionate and helpful. She filled us in on things we were not certain of and offered to take photos of my kids and I. The other wrangler, Curtis, was a man of few words but extremely knowledgable of the area and the horses. The animals are well cared for at the ranch and in the mountains. As for the cabin.....it was a beautiful little log cabin with all we needed for necessities. The bonus was that it has a washer and dryer in it, along with a full sized fridge. The master bed was super comfortable! One of the best that I have stayed in. It was all around an authentic, country western experience!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful scenery, well trained horses, professional, knowledgeable staff... As a beginner, however, I would've liked to be in a smaller group of max 4. As well, I would've liked to be paid more attention to as a beginner. Two hours on horseback for the first time was too long for me. Shorter tours should be offered for beginners. All around, it was a great experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ From the moment we arrived at the property we were greeted by beautiful scenery, friendly dogs, and the most peaceful energy we had ever felt.
We were able to check into our cabin with ease and walk towards the office, where Dewy and Lorraine were waiting for us with two gorgeous horses, Benny and Dude, for a two-hour horse ride. It was an unforgettable ride that allowed my partner and I to disconnect from all the troubles of the big city, work life, and the stressors of everyday life. Dewy was friendly, down to earth, and beyond knowledgeable - it was an honour to learn from him and see him navigate the land! Lorraine was helpful and so sweet! She got off her horse mid ride to fetch my toque after it had been yanked off my head by a branch.
The Cabin was an absolute dream. So quaint and welcoming and simply wonderful; we are already planning to return!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rented a cabin for the weekend, I must say that is was very comfortable,clean and peaceful on the Ranch. Sue in the office very friendly and Dewy just a fun person to be around. All the staff at the Ranch are awesome people. Went for a 2 hours ride in the snow, it was so beautiful, can’t wait to go back. Would definitely recommend Anchor D
