Healthy Kids Initiative will help up to 3,000 children and youth in the province

Being physically active, eating healthy foods and having positive mental health are all pillars of healthy living. They play an important role in supporting the well-being of young Canadians and helping to prevent the development of chronic diseases later in life, like type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health, announced that the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is investing up to $1.5 million over three years in the Alliance Wellness and Rehabilitation Inc. (Alliance Health) Healthy Kids Initiative. This is athree-year initiative to improve the activity levels, eating habits and social supports of up to 3,000 children and youth between the ages of 10 and 17 in Moose Jaw, Regina and Saskatoon in Saskatchewan.
The Healthy Kids Initiative is a 12-week program that takes a whole-of-community approach to promoting healthy living by providing daily physical activity and access to healthy eating and mental health sessions. A kinesiologist, a registered dietician and a youth social worker will supervise these sessions. Alliance Health is partnering with the YMCA to provide free access to fitness facilities. In addition, school boards and family physicians will be involved throughout the initiative to support children and youth in adopting healthier lifestyles. As part of the project, a mobile application called The Daily Difference will be developed with input from children and youth. The aim of the application is to provide self-help techniques to address depressed mood, mild anxiety and low self-esteem while improving physical activity and nutritional intake.
The initiative builds on the positive results from the previously funded Healthy Weights Initiative, which applied a similar approach to support 2,000 adults in Moose Jaw and Regina in achieving and maintaining a healthier weight. Participants from the Healthy Weights Initiative demonstrated positive changes in blood pressure, body mass index, fitness levels, depressed mood and quality of life.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Well all I can say is I've had better service at well....anywhere else. After the phone recording still saying closed close to 10 minutes after it was open.. once it did ring I got a 9 callers ahead of you message, then on hold 12 more minutes ...it rings... only to go to hold again for 2 more min.. then finally a person answers to ask me if I can hold please?! I wanted to say its been 25 min so far guess another min or 2 makes no diff, but was nice and said sure. Once I got receptionist again I felt there was a superiority tone before I'd even asked a question and I simply needed to confirm what specialist I'd been referred to as my appointment was in a couple hours and I couldn't locate paper I'd put address on..and the condition could only have 1 or 2 places it could be at didn't feel it was a big ask (silly me) ...but it was like pulling teeth to get 1 Dr number to try...as she didn't know??! (Surely records or charts had to say who I had been referred to??) Thankfully the next Dr receptionist was somewhat less caustic and helpful (though of course not one I was booked at) and gave me the number of only other place it could be...and I got the address of the place I needed to go. Seeing there's only 2 in town you'd think first receptionist could have mentioned both but made a point of how/why would she know, like really? Maybe cause its your job and you unlike me knew it could only be 1 of 2 places already... once if was told where it was I immediately remembered. Between this today and getting cleared as no problems by these guys...when I almost died in emergency the next day a few years back, I'm very glad I'm changing Dr's and will hopefully not need to return. Definitely don't recommend unless you have absolutely no choice and are fond of waiting and being treated as a necessary nuisance.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dr. Bortolotti is an amazing doctor! I have been off my meds for over a year and I couldn't find a doctor who would help. If they did help it was momentarily and would take months to get responses. Within 3 days I was back on my meds thanks to him, its been less than a month and he has been working hard to make sure we check all the aspects of my health condition. I couldn't be more thankful. I don't usually do reviews, but Alliance Health deserves all the praise it can get!

However, the receptionists aren't so friendly. I rarely get a "you're welcome" when I thank them for their work, just a 'yeh'... I just recently called back my previous doctor's office and the tone of their receptionist really makes me miss the friendly energy at a doctor's office...
Also, I've been trying to call all day during reception hours and I get a 'line busy' tone... Normally you get put on a waiting line when you call for health services?? Bizzare...

Janzen who really just has the best bedside manner and has always treated me great in not so great circumstances. Thanks to all the staff! Please keep up the good work.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've been trying to get an appointment here for awhile, but no matter when I call there's never any doctors at the clinic and they won't allow me the clinic doctor since I don't have a family doctor. I've been in pain for months, all I want is an ultra sound why is it so hard to get it. I don't recommend this place to anyone. Just go to the ER cuz the hospital is just as bad if you need to see a doctor can't see one without it being a family doctor.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have been unable to get in contact with my own doctor the past three times that I've called. I had a heart attack last year and simply need a refill on my prescriptions. The office no longer takes faxed requests from the pharmacist so I have to talk to a doctor in order for them to call in a refill. This morning I called again and my doctor is out, so I asked if another doctor could call this in as I've been out of three different meds since yesterday and I was told I would need to call back tomorrow morning as other doctors were working at the hospital today. The receptionist was nice and apologized for this, but come on already. How is there no way to make a note that I have called and need a refill? I shouldn't need to call back several days just to get a prescription.

I visited this clinic just few times and I'm happy with my experience there so far. Even though I didn't book an appointment ahead of time, I waited for doctors for just 10-15 minutes.
