Unfortunately they dont care. Just a bunch of government workers putting their time in from 9-5. Dont expect them to actually fight for your rights.

As an HR professional, I lean heavily on the Human Rights Commission and have always received in depth explanations and guidance from the Human Rights Officers.

These people work tirelessly. They can not be thanked enough and are probably not thanked enough. Thank you for everyone that works for the Calgary Human Rights Commission for doing what you do everyday and for what you will continue to do.

The Human Right Officer would not review my complaint and yet shared my grievance with my employer. Thus making a bad situation worse. The commission is a joke so do not bother reporting your complaint to them. They look like employer's agent.

Ludicrous agency. I made a very clear, documented complaint of unlawful termination. The company responded with a 100 page manifesto of a reply with zero documented evidence of their assertions. The complaint was dismissed by an officer that clearly didn't read either party's documents as was evident in his reply, with no investigation. I appealed in June 2017. By August 2018 the appeal was 'going though the process'. There was zero updates or communication The clerk on the phone expressed their surprise as 'appeals are usually resolved quickly'. Over a year later, the company offered to settle, and I withdrew the complaint with no resolutions. Awful process, no communication, barely literate staff, no updates, over a year in limbo, your tax paying dollars hard at work.

If I could give it zero stars I would. They told my my human rights were not absolute! And basically they pick and choose the human rights which matter on the popular narrative at the time. Absolute joke Get rid of these guys and get people in who actually care about people and human rights.

After almost 4 years, I finally made it to Tribunal. They claimed this process is designed for people like me but I have to say this process was the worst process I have ever went through in my life. What they say is different to what is done and that is also different to what is written in decisions. I asked for accommodations due to my disabilities and was asked to get reports as proof which I did that cost thousands of dollars. All I wanted was extra time to process information during tribunal and I was ignored, despite having booked ample enough time to allow. Any objections I had were ignored, your voice is nothing but irritating noise to them. The amount they give you for going through this IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. This is supposed to put you back in the position before you were discriminated against and prevent it from happening. What a joke that is. This process will ruin your life, it is meant to make you give up. The percentage of your case getting far enough and then landing with someone who's smart and cares enough to see it for what it is are slim to none. Alberta's tribunal is not even a fraction as progressive as BC or Ontario, Corporations have more rights than humans. If you don't have hundreds of thousands for a lawyer, you will not recieve a fair award. If you have any disabilities, they will be used against you. This is just a place where politicians can assign their freinds jobs so they can aquire some extra fluff for their resumes and a few hundred k. I felt there was hope when Michael Gottheil came out here to make changes but he bailed on Alberta as fast as he could. These guys actually managed to move our rights backwards, no one wants to step outside these boundaries that were made without any merit and make an award that's actually relevant.
