I purchased a presale condo from Abbey Lane Homes in their project the VIP at Californian in January of 2013, before framing had begun. Before I purchased, I inquired about a bunch of things that I had hoped to change about the suite. The sales person assured me that I could customize the home and make it my own. I have several e-mails that substantiate the promises that she made. Of course I was generally too concerned with keeping an upbeat relationship with their sales person to demand that she put these items in writing. She would insist that it was not the right time, and as per an e-mail I received that this was the following procedure: "If you are wanting to make changes to your island, cabinets, flooring etc. we actually do that seperately once we start framing. Any changes would be priced out, a credit would be determined for the standard we put in and then you would decide if the upcharge for what you are changing is going to work for you. You are the only one to decide if you want to pay for the changes you are looking for once I provide the upgrade price to you. If you wish to proceed, then we put all of the information on a work order and that is submitted with payment for the changes. This does not become part of the original purchase agreement." After being told that all of the items I was promised were not an option (by the owner), I decided that I would try and file a Better Business Bureau complaint in hopes that we could come to some sort of compromise. (IE: OK you can have this but not this.) or (You can't have any of that stuff but sorry for the miscommunication between the builder and the sales person, so we'll offer you this upgrade at no charge). Instead, the sales person threatened to sue me for defamation. Here's the e-mail: "Please be advised I have forwarded all of your correspondence to my lawyer for slander and defamation. Please do not contact me as I will have no further dealings with you. I fully intend to file a Statement of Claim for damages and allegations made. A copy of proceedings will be forwarded to my Company." After receiving this I offered the builder a solution where the sales person would not receive commission on my sale, and instead the commission amount would be removed from my sale price. Why should this person make money off of me after threatening to sue me? This was also rejected. Bottom line - if you don't want to be sued I suggest you build with another company.

I own a 2 bed room unit at VIP, great location, excellent quality reasonable price, sales person was very friendly. The high light features I personally enjoy: room layout, unit features and options, gym, guest room, meeting room, heated underground parking with a quite large storage room for all my stuff, love the wash bay, I shopped around in the same area and it was not a difficult decision. I suggest you visit their show room before make a purchase decision. Abbey Lane has been around for a very long time, their buildings are going to hold up.

They build a beautiful home from the outside however the insides have flaws that the Builder is not willing to stand behind and rectify kind of a shame

Damien and Bruno, son and father team are class acts. We moved into our new condo at VIP Californian Parkland beginning of may 2021 and just love it. A wonderful condo. High end furnishings and lots of room. Thank you guys for working out our deal. We are all very happy with our big move. Everyone we have met has great things to say bout living at VIP. The community is wonderful, a spectacular park with pond around the corner and lots of services near by. What a gem in The Grange west Edmonton.
