WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (29-24) beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 11-9 at Shaw Park on Thursday night.

Box Score

Trailing 7-0 in the bottom of the third inning, the Goldeyes rallied for seven runs—including four home runs—to tie the game.  Kevin Lachance lined a single to centre leading off and was followed by a line drive, two-run home run to left from Reggie Pruitt Jr.  Ian Sagdal then singled to centre, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.  Max Murphy pulled Winnipeg within 7-4 with a two-run blast to left-centre.  Two batters later, Raul Navarro and Logan Hill crushed back-to-back solo homers to narrow the deficit to 7-6.  After Eric Rivera singled through the left side, Josh Vincent relieved RailCats’ starter Nick Garcia.  With two outs, Rivera stole second and scored the tying run on a single to right from Lachance.

Jhon Vargas relieved Goldeyes’ starter Landen Bourassa in the top of the fourth and worked a scoreless inning to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the fourth, Sagdal singled to centre leading off before Murphy was hit by a pitch.  Vincent retired the next two batters, but Hill slugged a three-run home run to left-centre that put the Goldeyes in front for the first time at 10-7.

Gary SouthShore (21-33) pulled within 10-8 in the top of the fifth on a two-out, solo home run to left-centre from Sam Abbott.  It was Abbott’s second of the game.

Murphy re-extended the lead to 11-8 in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff home run down the left field line.

The RailCats rallied in the top of the eighth.  With second and third and one out, Thomas Walraven singled down the left field line to plate Alec Olund to make it 11-9.  With the tying runs on the corners, Bryan Blanton struck out Michael Woodworth.  Tasker Strobel relieved Blanton, and retired Daniel Lingua on a fielder’s choice to end the inning.

Strobel worked a scoreless top of the ninth to convert the four-out save, his 15th of the season.

Vargas (2-0) picked up the win in relief, while Vincent (5-3) took the loss for the RailCats.

Bourassa took a no-decision, allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in three innings.  Bourassa walked none and struck out two.

Garcia also took a no-decision, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in two and one-third innings.  Garcia walked none and struck out one.

Gary SouthShore took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-out, two-run single from Jackson Smith.

Lingua made it 3-0 in the top of the third with an RBI groundout.  After the RailCats loaded the bases, Abbott hit a grand slam down the left field line to open a 7-0 advantage.

Zac Ryan and Travis Seabrooke each pitched a scoreless relief inning for Winnipeg.  The Goldeyes’ six home runs tied a season-high just set on Sunday versus Sioux City.  Winnipeg’s 16 base hits are a new season-high.

Game two of the four-game series is Friday night at 6:35 p.m.  Alex Manasa (2-2, 3.80) faces left-hander Jack Eisenbarger (1-4, 3.32).

Great AA ballpark in downtown Winnipeg. Lots of food and local brew options. They often have family shows or events before/after games as well (fireworks, movies, etc). Ball park is also very close to "The Forks", which is another popular local and tourist destination.

Take me out to the ballpark ⚾️ Shaw Park the home of the Winnipeg Goldeye’s it’s a great meeting place for friends/family to enjoy an evening or afternoons on the weekends at the park to watch a great game of baseball. The tickets are affordable to attend a game, you can pay for the parking or maybe lucky enough to find free parking with a bit of a walk. Food for the kids and adults there’s no shortage of a selection to choose. While you sitting watching the game there are staff going up & down the stands to sell kids or adult drinks. Peanuts ? or course you need them to sit back and cheer on the Goldeye’s. There are fun games on the field to win some awesome prizes. So if you don’t know what to do one evening while the boys are in town why not come down to watch a game. Go Goldeye’s Go ... you’ll also find Dancing Gabe in the crowd
