Philosophy:

The staff at the Child Care Centre will strive to provide a developmental program that will assist ALL children to grow to his/her fullest potential. The social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative selves will be developed so that ALL children will be nurtured and encouraged to reach their maximum potential. This will be monitored by a developmental rating questionnaire e.g. Ages and Stages Screening Tool.

This process will be conducted through play. Play is the work of children and through play, they learn about themselves, the world and its wonders and their place in it. Staff members will interact with children to facilitate play and guide their behavior.

Staff are encouraged to work with the same group of children each day as per the work schedule. This leads to trusting relationships between the caregiver and the child. At times when children are napping, staff could be placed with another group of children. Throughout the busy times of the day, 8:30 to 5:00, the children are with primary caregivers and with consistent staff members to that group.

Child Care workers and parents will work closely to recognize each stage of the children’s development and fashion a program that will enhance and facilitate growth during this time. An Emergent Curriculum will be embraced to allow staff to celebrate a child’s particular interest for the day.

An atmosphere that will challenge and stimulate the child will be created through the use of interest centres.
