Recently completed both the VISC novice and traffic skills course. Both courses were expertly run and taught in a fun and safe environment to be able to include both new and experienced riders alike. Our instructor Ed was excellent and really took the time to explain the skills and drills in a way that made sure everyone felt confident right out the gate. I’d highly recommend the VISC courses to new and experienced riders just looking to brush up their riding ability!

As a novice learner, I chose this council based on online reviews. It was a mistake. The course left me feeling discouraged and anxious. As a new rider who has never operated a motorcycle before, the quality of learning is pertinent. This course is normally 4 days but was condensed into 3 days. I felt rushed, pressured and judged by my pace of learning. Understanding that everyone has different ways of learning and ability to adapt to that is very important when instructing (as a healthcare professional, I do a lot of teaching and directing). The versatility was not there. This was the most awful way I have spent >500$. Please, if you are completely new to riding a motorcycle, I advise against this council. The worst way to learn is feeling rushed to get all the skills under your belt, especially learning to operate a machine where your life is always at risk. If your priorities are focused on meticulous learning, thoroughness, patience and a personable experience, this place is NOT right for you. If you just want to whip through and obtain the title of finishing a course to get restrictions taken off your learners, than consider otherwise.

I started with the Basic Riders Course last fall to prep for the Traffic Skills Course this spring. I was a little nervous because I'd not had the privilege to practice being on a motorcycle on my own time before the TSC but was ready for anything. Peter was my instructor and I couldn't have asked for a better leader. He has so much skill and safety knowledge. He provided clear instruction and helpful feedback. He wasn't 'aggressive' in his teaching style which helps with someone like myself. I don't respond well to people who talk to me like I'm not smart and my anxiety doesn't help. Peter made me feel like I was capable of over coming my fears and anxieties. He treated me like an adult and an equal on the road. I'll be planning to take more courses along my riding journey and I hope I have the privilege of having Peter teach me more. Thank you Peter and VISC!

I highly recommend the novice skills course with VISC. As someone who had never ridden a motorbike, I was amazed at how much I learned. I was out of my comfort zone the entire time, learning and improving at a pace that was always a step ahead of me. That is, I was never bored! All that I learned, in theory and in practice, started coming together on the last day. The instructors teach with humour, repetition, and understanding, and they ensure that you receive the safety points at least twice!

VISC is a top notch motorcycle school that I had the joy of being a part of last May ( 2021 ) All of the instructors in both the Novice and the Traffic safety courses were extremely professional, knowledgably and enthusiastic. Lisa, Ed, Heather and Dave were the main instructors that I remember and they all did a great job at understanding that all riders learn at a different pace. I was very pleased with the amount of riding time this school provides, and my little legs also appreciated that they had lowered bikes! The novice course was condensed from 4 to 3 days prior to me attending, but I honestly felt like the instruction wasn't rushed and the instructors were very thorough with all lessons. I can't stress enough how much I have gained from this course. The way we learned to ride defensively in the traffic course has proved so vital in my everyday riding. I have not had very many close calls with vehicles and I attribute a lot of that to the skills I picked up from VISC. Always being in a visible position, and being calm and confident are just things that you will naturally ride with if you take these courses. I will wrap up this rather long review by saying that everything about these courses are amazing, exhilarating and challenging at times but it has given me some amazing memories. It puts a huge smile on my face every time I see the safety council out riding. Thanks you all!

Just finished taking the Novice motorcycle skills course! I'm now able to ride a motorcycle by myself! Terrific course. It's surprising how quickly you gain confidence. I went from never riding to feeling like I could ride a motorbike on the road with some confidence :) Leanne and Ron were awesome instructors! Both were positive, encouraging, professional and competent. Highly recommend. I'm hoping to also take their Traffic Course, which is designed to pass the final ICBC road test, and prepare for even safer riding.

I did the novice & traffic course with VISC, and it was awesome. I had a really fun time in a safe learning environment. The instructors are the nicest people and I learned so much and gained confidence. I’ll definitely be back in the future for the advanced riders course!

Having just completed the Vancouver Island Safety Council Novice and Traffic courses back to back, I'm happy to say that they took me from being a person that has never ridden a motorcycle to a fully licensed rider. The instructors are infinitely patient, knowledgeable, and make learning fun and safe. I'd recommend them to anyone looking to try motorcycle riding for the first time or even looking to level up existing skills. I'll be looking to enroll in one of their advanced courses in the future.
