★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We booked this hotel for the September long weekend 2 months in advance through booking.com. We called them in advance as well to give them all the details about the number of persons we are going, and they confirmed it as well. On the day of our checkin, right after the lunch hour when we already reached Victoria, they cancelled our booking, saying we are too many people. We were so devastated as we had 3 toddlers with us and when we tried to ask them that we confirmed and did everything following the booking.com policy and by calling them, they misbehaved with us and was acting very rude. We called every hotel and all were fully booked for that weekend. When we tried to convince them by explaining this regardless that it was not our fault, they just said that the owner was not there when we booked it, now he is here and he will not allow it, he didn’t even let us talk. We had to talk to Booking.com for several times for longer period to fix this issue as we were not at fault. Booking.com fixed the issue and we checked-in in the late evening in this hotel.
The room were not even cleaned, the bedsheets were stained, the floor had dust and dirt. The most irritating thing was the dresser was dirty as well and it had ant all over the place including the surface of the fridge and microwave. We were prepared that the lodge will be basic type but we never expected atleast the dirts and ants all over the place. I will never recommend this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Room was basically clean but one of the bed skirts smelled strongly of urine. Left the usual mess and the desk clerk acted like we had a party with the Stones, their roadies and a dozen groupies. He needs to match his expectations to the type of lodging being offered.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Super clean, well managed, exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Ocean views, outdoor seating to enjoy the fresh air. We went back for a second night after our trip to Gabriola Island because it was so great the first night. Good value for your dollar! There is also a great restaurant next door, Alice's restaurant.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a very nice stay in this motel.It has a great ocean view and is the best choice for people who need to relax and a quiet place to rest and enjoy. The managers were super friendly.

If you don’t mind loud traffic noise, hearing everything in the next room(and I mean everything) way past 11pm, no black out curtains to have a dark room at night, sagging mattress, strong smell of bleach, no desk clerk from 10 pm to 10 am to keep an eye on things then you will love this place. Best thing is Alice’s Restaurant next door.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I tried to check in, and explained I was having trouble with my credit card and wondered if they excepted debit deposit, the girl was very rude and said she worked in a bank for ten years and it should work took my card and it didn't, again very rude. I left to another hotel and they were pleasent and said that they would take debit but we tried my credit card. After 3 tries the credit card did work. The staff were great, and I am glad I didn't stay at this hotel and ended up at the other. I am in town regularly, and will not even think of trying at the Value lodge again after my treatment.
