United Way of Saskatoon and Area is committed to protecting your privacy. We take every step to ensure the confidentiality of your personal information is maintained.

Personal information is information that can be used to distinguish, identify, or contact a specific individual. The personal information United Way generally collects includes name, address, telephone number, email address, donation amount, and banking or credit card information. We manage all personal information in accordance with this policy. The personal information you provide to us is used to help us in our campaign to process and receipt your donation, distributing a donation to a local United Way or other registered charity, register your participation in a conference or other event, keep you informed about giving opportunities and the work of United Way, and respond to any of your information requests.

We do not sell nor trade donor information. We do not provide donor information to any third parties, except for the following:

  • Direct Mail Donors – for direct mail donors, United Way of Saskatoon and Area will not sell your information but may share your information with our third-party service contractors, only after you have had an opportunity to decline; this is rechecked regularly, and donors can opt-out at any time. If you are a donor to our workplace campaign, whether online or via a paper pledge form, your information is not shared with other organizations, unless a portion of your gift is directed to another United Way or another
  • Designations – where a portion of your gift is directed to another United Way or another charity, we provide the amount of your donation and your name to the recipient. If you do not wish this to occur, please indicate this in the appropriate section of your pledge
  • Leadership Donors – United Way may publicly recognize leadership donors. If you prefer to remain anonymous, please indicate this when making your pledge, in the box provided for this

United Way of Saskatoon will not provide or share your personal information with third parties unless:

Access to personal information is granted only to those employees, authorized volunteers, and authorized third-party service contractors whose duties require the information for United Way purposes. We maintain appropriate technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.

Information is stored in a controlled, secure environment, protected from unauthorized access. We use physical security measures, organizational measures including limiting access, and technological measures such as the use of passwords and encryption to protect personal information that is received and/or provided through the internet. Software is routinely updated to maximize the protection of such information. Further, United Way adheres to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).

All employees and authorized volunteers of United Way are required to protect the confidentiality of your personal information and are required to sign a confidentiality agreement to ensure they are informed about the importance of privacy protection.

United Way Donor Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

I – To be informed of the organization’s mission of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

II – To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgement of its stewardship responsibilities.

III – To have full access to the organization’s audited financial statements.

IV – To be assured their gifts will be used for the purpose for which they were given.

V – To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.

VI – To expect that information about themselves and their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality.

VII – To expect that all relationships with individuals representing the organization will be professional in nature.

VIII – To be informed about the exact relationship between the person(s) soliciting donations and the organization, including all costs associated with such solicitations.

IX – To expect that the organization will not share or sell mailing lists on which donor names appear, without donor approval.

X – To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful, and forthright answers.

XI – To expect that the organization is organized and operated in accordance with both the spirit and intent of all applicable legislation.
