Working with an addiction is so hard, but what is harder is the stigma that comes along with it. We get treated like second rate citizen, or that our opinions and our ideas mean nothing in the "real world" I can tell you I have never felt that way going to Trew beginnings, Trisha, Taylor & Dr. Lea none of them have ever made me feel like I can't accomplish everything I want to, with hard work,. I have been struggling with addictions for a very long time, and I finally have been able to feel like I can beat this, and that this doesn't have to be the life for me, and it is strictly because of the Ladies at Trew. I watch them with their clients, and they actually care about them. It's so genuine. I think if we had some more Trew clinic and could find some more loving and compassionate people like these ladies, it would be a great step in addressing this opioid crisis. Nothing is going to change if we can't get the help we need, and we can't get the help we need if we feel like we don't belong and are judged as soon as we walk in to a clinic. You have to feel like you can really open up and show yourself, I have only felt warmth and support since I have come to Trew clinic and I just hope more people find them because having someone in your corner, i mean, really there for you... is huge! Having someone fight for you when you feel you are worthless is just beyond words, everyone of them are there, all the time for all of this trew crew!! I have a bunch of cards that I hand out to anyone i know wanting to take that next step and i just know that if they take that step, it's their first step for a new life. I am so glad I found this clinic and I am so glad that these ladies are so caring and genuine. If you are looking for a place where you will be respected and treated like a human (cause you are and you have rights) give Trew a try, they will fight for you and help you to the best of their ability's. Sometime's that's all it takes, is for someone to truly believe in you, and I have found that at Trew with all the workers! I know you can too! <3

Awesome clinic, amazing people. I have been to 5 or 6 different clinics within a ten year period, and Trew Beginnings was hands down the very best. Trish and Tay and the doctors were very helpful, caring, and were instrumental in my recovery. I am very grateful for Trew Beginnings and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for recommendations!

Trew Beginnings totally go above and beyond for their patients. I always was treated with such respect, they aided me by putting me on a treatment plan and I am happy to say that today I am 2 years clean. This would not have been achievable without help from Trish, Taylor and the staff at Trew Begginings. I walked in the doors there a completely different person than I am today

When I moved to this city, I really knew absolutely no one & didn't know where to start as far as my recovery went. I have always felt at home going here, and Trish and her daughter Taylor have made a huge difference in my life through their positive attitudes and support. The clinic itself is very nice; waiting area is comfortable and everything is always extremely clean. Trish works hard and she is out there saving lives - many lives - giving people a second chance. The doctors at this clinic are exceptional; going above and beyond for their patients every day. Thank you for all you guys do for the community ??

Since I have been a patient with Trew Beginnings, I have found the staff and owners to always act with professionalism, compassion, and care. When I completed a recovery program three years ago, I found myself nervous to re enter the community freshly sober and with no real safe guards for relapse prevention. I was fortunate enough to find a great clinic that has such a welcoming and safe atmosphere, as my past experiences with this type of service was not all that great. My heart is full of gratitude for the lovely family, Trish and Taller, who own and operate this establishment.

I have had the pleasure of working with the team at Trew Beginnings Clinic, alongside Doctor Denise Lea. For years, I have been referred from one office to the next, flowing through the revolving door in which is the addictions and mental health systems that are in practice in Canada. Unfortunately, struggling with these aliments myself comes with a stigma which has been widely exercised during my decade in and out of health care systems. For years, I avoided doctors and thus postponed working on bettering myself due to avoiding the judgement and dismissiveness I believed I would ultimately experience. Until coming to Nanaimo and experiencing the kind and forward thinking, personal experience I have witnessed at Trew Beginnings, I had become quite cynical. Dr. Lea has acted as a mentor, a visionary, a friend, a counsellor, an instructor, and most of all with a strong sense of moral obligation and integrity to help a population in which in other terms have been largely ignored- including myself. The "vibe" at the clinic is that of non-judgemental understanding, enforced by Trish and Natalie (Taylor who is now gone is also worth a a mention for her fun-loving, sweet nature)- and Caroline who acts as the glue of the clinic while also presenting her time and care towards all who walk through the door. In my time in the grips of active addiction and now new found recovery, I have yet to encounter a more dedicated- while also professional and compassionate- group of women, ready to serve your personal needs and treat each client with the respect and decency they deserve, despite even the most gloomy and poor external circumstances. Trew Beginnings Clinic gives those otherwise forgotten a voice, along with compassionate and understanding care, a safe place, resources within the community, and most of all: the type of kindness that they and I would likely not have experienced anywhere else. While the reason for me to initiate contact with Trew Beginnings was not because I was seeking to enter a recovery program, but because my doctor left his practice and I needed a doctor to continue managing my chronic pain treatment . From the first day I contacted Trew Beginnings I have been treated with respect and dignity. Dr D Lea is awesome so down to earth and caring . The front staff are kind . I feel if you are someone who has reached the point in your life you are ready for recovery I definitely recommend trying to get into this clinic because if you are serious about your recovery the personal at this clinic will give you all the support and guidance you need to live a life of sobriety.
