About Township of Ignace

Blueberry Picking

Almost every person who grew up in the Ignace area has picked fresh wild blueberries. The boreal forest produces some of the sweetest berries in the world. These antioxidant rich berries when picked and cleaned sell for a good price and are highly sought after by visitors and travelers. The picking season usually lasts from the beginning of July to the end of August. The best place to find these berries is in harvested forest sites accessible by logging roads. Added to this, just north of Sandbar Lake Provincial Park is a landscape dominated by boulders, an area that is surrounded by blueberries and some roadside raspberries.

Before venturing out for berries, it is advisable to become bearwise. Blueberry patches are a good place to encounter bears as they consume hundreds of pounds of blueberries late in the summer to store fat for the winter. While these animals are generally non-threatening, they are also known to be extremely dangerous.

Really nice visitor centre with very clean bathrooms and helpful people in the information centre. Loved the water feature outside, a very restful place to take a break!

A great place to stop and stretch the legs, if you are travelling with animals there are little trails to explore and some equipment for the kids to play. If you take the time to stop make sure to support some of the business in the area even if it's just grabbing a drink or snack.

Town shuts down very early especially gas stations despite posting late times. It's a trucking pass thru town offering little to nothing. Ended up parking at visitor center - only place we could find - cause low gas, and woken up by a rude, upset bi-law officer flashing is badge. Town needs to teach etiquette and decency to tax-paid public servants.

Ignace... a beautiful place to live !! Hundreds of lakes in close proximity. Fishing, hunting, adventure, ATV and snowmobiling galore. Very few people and almost no traffic. Not a traffic light within 3 hours to the East in Thunder Bay and one hour to the West, in Dryden. All the amenities one could need but most shop in Dryden at the big box stores.

One of our many rest stops on the way to Alberta, the bathroom were pretty busy and definitely not the cleanest . It's a good place for the kids to burn off some energy and to walk the dog.

Beautiful grounds and building... Looked lovely and a had a great rest area... Had a couple of questions for staff in the office and we didn't get an answer, so.....can't say much for that.

They have a nice job on the look of this centre. It is probably the only place to stop in Ignace to use the bathroom, as many of the gas stations have closed their bathrooms sure to COVID. The bathroom was fairly clean for a public washroom.
