About Tibetan Association Of Alberta (TAA)

Between 1971 and 1972, Canada opened its doors to 228 Tibetan refugees as part of its Tibetan Refugee program. This program was established after His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama appealed to the International Community to assist the Tibetan refugees living in India and Nepal. The Tibetan refugees had fled the Chinese occupation of Tibet after the Tibetan uprising of 1959. Today more than 400 Tibetans call Alberta home.

In 2009, the name of the organization was officially changed to the Tibetan Association of Alberta (TAA). This change reflects the growth in the size of the community, and its’ objectives.
