Thompson Falls Trailhead

I gave this review 2 stars for a great number of reasons. We are from SK, somewhere where there isn’t any trails or sightseeing places, there’s just not, a walk to the grocery store and back is our exercise. Anyways, we were looking for waterfalls to quickly see on our way through, however we were very very unprepared for the 12km hike that awaited us, with no prior knowledge and our first time being at this location, really set us off. First of all, the paths aren’t marked properly for you to see where to go, you just kindof have to go with your five sense instincts and follow the sound of the water. Secondly, the path was not for amateur hikers, the path had many inclines and we had to take several breaks to stop and catch our breath. The view along the way however was beautiful, more beautiful than the “falls” as they call them, us expecting a huge waterfall when it was just rapid currents. Third, the falls were accessible by road meaning you could drive to them and walk a small distance to see them rather than parking at the Thompson falls sign and walking the dreadful 12km. Do not advise to hike this on an empty stomach as my girlfriend and I almost passed out on our way back. We definitely should’ve done our research before coming but it was last minute and (there is no cell service out there incase you get lost.) I found out you could drive to the falls by reading a review after we had left BC, would’ve been nice to know but then again research was needed. (Not for amateurs) ADD SIGNS FOR DIRECTION ADD SIGNS TO TELL TOURISTS WHERE THE ROAD IS Pros: beautiful scenery, can drive to the falls Cons: No navigation/signs , long hike, repetitive scenery, more inclined then declines Difficulty: Hard

Definitely harder than expected. The falls were great and we even found a few places to swim on the way back. Use bug spray.

Nice walk, sometimes beside the river on the way up. Good views of the surrounding mountains when you get to openings. You can also drive up to the falls if you continue up the road.

Trail was a good workout but had a lot of blown down trees to navigate over. Falls were amazing!

It's a nice trail but if you just want to see the falls you can drive there. No need for a 12km hike.

The hike is pretty good. Some longer stretches with out a river view, so I saw a few complaints about that, but Mother Nature doesn’t always design itself for postcard hikes. I thought the trail was quite easy to follow, so again, I disagree with some other complaints. Some sections were washed away when I went, May 2020, so there were easy to follow detours that took you away from the riverbank. 12 km round trip hike can be shortened by driving the road, but that’s your choice. The falls seem less than spectacular at first, but I love that’s it’s not a postcard perfect place. The falls make 2 - 90 degree turns so I think it’s quite unique to see. It’s a very peaceful place and I met no one on my trek, so it was great. I really look forward to visiting this place again soon!

Lovely walk. Some muddy spots and steep at the last 1km. Alternative route back via fireroad. Or you could be really lazy and drive to the falls but then you'd miss the fabulous river views.

Amazing hike. Loved every minute of it! The falls are awesome. Apparently you can just drive up the road and access the falls easier that way, but who would want to do that? Get a good hike in! I took my time, took lots of photos, and was able to complete the 12 km there and back from the trailhead to the falls in under 4 hours. It's not as difficult of a trail as people on here make it seem. This is a great experience!
