E	Emily CPY on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a First Nations art instillation - NOT THE WAR MEMORIAL that folks keep posting pictures of (that's across the intersection). This bronze statue is by First Nations artist, James Hart (the hereditary chief of the Staast'as Eagle Clan). It is three figures watching for danger, from both supernatural and everyday threats. Normally such a figure would sit at the top of a totem in front of a home in the Haida Gwaii on the west coast of Canada. (You can see other examples of this at the nearby Art gallery particularly and Emily Carr's paintings, or at the history museum across the river in Gatineau.) It represents the complicated relationship between the Haida and other institutions that occupy what is now Canada.
V	VinnyBarbarini on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a great sculpture actually nestled between three roadways. It is actually just across the street Northwest of the Reconciliation Peacekeeping Monument. There is often confusion between both of them because both landmarks feature three bodies watching over the surrounding area, which ironically includes the U.S. Embassy.

Often positioned at the top of tall cedar totem poles in front of houses in Haida villages in Haida Gwaii, the watchmen give warning if a threat approaches. For the artist James Hart, hereditary Chief of the Staast'as Eagle Clan, the function of The Three Watchmen is augmented here by the close proximity of the symbolic centres of the church and government. The Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, the American Embassy and the Canadian Parliament buildings represent historical and ongoing relationships with the Haida. The ideals of mediation and resolution expressed by Reconciliation, the nearby monument to peacekeeping, provide further context to consider with The Three Watchmen."
M	Michael Emeny on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Take a moment and pay a quiet respect to something bigger than yourself. There is far too much to see in Ottawa to limit yourself to just Parliament Hill. Always be mindful, pick up after yourself. It's paramount you find a sense of self when reflecting. Did not have time to take a photo. Too busy explaining things to my girls. And showing them there is far more to Canada than what we know.
