The Shed - Kimberley

Our Story

In 2010 three partners set out to fill a void in the Kimberley community. The dream was to open up a place to hang your hat that had great food, great drinks, and minimal distractions. All of the partners imagined a pub full of regulars capping their days and weekends with friends and conversation, but as research and time would have it, what the town needed and what the partners wanted weren’t in alignment… not yet, anyway. So, instead, the partners decided to modify the idea and opened up a crowd-pleasing family-friendly restaurant that offered comfort food. Dreams of a drinking establishment reminiscent of a Kootenay shed were set on the back burner.

5 years and a new chef/partner later, the idea of “The Shed” was reborn. Now that roles were clearly defined, business was running smoothly, and market needs were clearer, it was time to revisit Plan A.

Living as a Kootenay-Canadian makes one privy to one of the most unique cultures this side of Canada. There’s an easiness the locals describe as dirt-baggery in this part of the world. It’s a celebration of friendships, adventures, curiosities and free time over busy-ness and material aspirations.

Folks in the Kootenays are resourceful, friendly, and a bit gritty. The Shed pays homage to the lifestyle of those that have lived here and that do live here. If you’ve been here long enough you’ve probably ended up at a party in a backyard shed. Your unlaced Sorels propped up on a proudly arranged stack of dry larch, an icy can of beer in hand, and anything from AC/DC to Jack Johnson playing on the stereo. At The Shed everyone is welcome as they are. We’ll do our best to be as evocative of a party with your neighbours in a Kimberley backyard as possible. Let’s celebrate the values of Kootenay culture, it’s a pretty darn good one.
