About Tandy Leather Saskatoon - 709

Al and his wife Ann’s love for leather was exemplified by a willingness to give freely of his knowledge, to build leathercraft as an art form, as well as a craft, and to encourage others by his personal example. Although he is no longer with us today, his work and character will remain with us forever.

Wow. Took our Scout group here and the service was unbelievable. The staff took the time to walk through leather projects with each of the boys. Great value for the money. We will be back. So nice to see great customer service

Honestly would give a zero if I could. Not sure if they've had a tough time adapting to online sales or what, but probably the worst customer experience I've ever had. I bought my husband a gift card prior to the pandemic. Our local shop closed shortly after, so he made a purchase online to be shipped out from the nearest location (Saskatoon). The instructions on the website said to charge it to your credit card and include the gift card number in the comments so that when the order was processed the credit card would be refunded and the gift card would be applied. Did that. Credit card was charged. Not refunded. Spoke to Tandy and they said there's nothing they could do, but feel free to use the gift card in a future purchase. My husband, being a better person than myself, tried again. He made a second purchase, again for over $100, and followed the same procedure. Both purchases were within a single week and they made the exact same mistake AGAIN. My husband called the head office this time which resulted in Tandy refunding the purchase price for the second purchase (not the first), under an agreement for my husband to call the Saskatoon store after the package arrived to provide them with the gift card number (which they now had already twice). Fast forward to now - package received. Before my husband could call the store back to provide the gift card number Tandy called FOUR times within a few hours, while we were in meetings. Husband called them back and was then told that someone apparently processed $100 on his gift card about a week ago. What. I'm sure you're all lovely and wonderful at your jobs in the shop but this is absolutely ridiculous.

It appears that Tandy is a great place to go... lots of 5 star reviews. My experience was less fantastic, First the positive. The store had a great layout, fantastic signage and all the products were very easy to find and let me tell you that smell as soon as you walk in was fantastic, homey, rustic, welcoming, inspiring. And the stuff that was less than positive. I am new to leather work with little to no understanding of what I actually need and my skill level but I am a serial crafter and would consider myself a fast learner. After wandering around for about 10 minutes and finding neat stuff everywhere while trying not to overwhelm myself I was offered help. This is great I had enough time to form opinions and make basic plans and in a moment of excitement I shared a picture of my project on my phone with the gentleman offering to assist. The project would require a maybe 12 inch square of leather that I had hoped was mostly finished and I asked if he had thought it was a good plan and was instantly met with resistance. I was told that the small craft squares at 40ish dollars were and expensive waste and that I should buy a whole hide at about 250 dollars with the reasoning that I could do many projects with that much.. i get the upsell point and I don't disagree with the logic but I explained that i was a novice and then immediately felt brushed of and ignored not a bad store and once I read about it online and teach myself what I need ill be going back without needing help.

Usually a great place to shop, but while in here this morning I noticed that the manager was roaming around the store without a mask on. No mask at all!! I'm surprised that in these weird times that one can still feel like he or she is above the law and do what they want, especially as a business owner. It'll be a while before I go back in there. ?

Stopped in for a sewing awl and they were very helpful. There is a really good selection of leather and leather tools. If you are into crafting they have pre cut wallets and bags as well as some books if you want to take it a step further.

Really good store, I'll only add that the GPS pin on Google is wrong. This store is on the 51st street side of the mall, not Faithfull. Just the other side of the lot AFTER Google Maps tells you that you've arrived.
