About Survivor's Hope Crisis Centre

Survivor’s Hope Crisis Centre Inc. (SHCC) is a sexual violence resource centre, serving those of all genders in the Interlake Eastern Region of Manitoba. SHCC provides inclusive support and sexual assault crisis intervention to survivors and those affected by sexual violence through our SARAH program, acts as an education resource for schools through our SADI program, and engages community and service providers through our Reaching Out Program.

SHCC recognizes that acts of sexual violence are motivated by power inequalities, and intolerance, hatred, or discrimination of a person’s identity including race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, age, and social economic status. SHCC works on the principles of trauma-informed care, empowerment, diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness.

SHCC is honoured to work on Treaty 1, 3 and 5 Territory and the homeland of the MΓ©tis.

SHCC acknowledges the relationships that were formed in these territories through Treaties and Ceremony was intended to be one of respect, reciprocity, and renewal.

We acknowledge the Anishinabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, Dene and MΓ©tis nations who are the original stewards of the lands we have the honour of working on.

In our work, SHCC centers the historical and contemporary harms experienced by First Nations, Inuit, and MΓ©tis people of Canada. We acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to moving forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.

SHCC offers the following programs:

Support for Healing

SARAH Crisis Program – SARAH Crisis Workers provide support 24/7 to individuals reporting a historical or recent sexual assault at RCMP detachments and emergency departments. SARAH Crisis Workers provide support, advocacy, and referrals for those accessing medical attention and legal support following a sexual assault.

SARAH Counselling and Support Program – Provides free individual counselling to those 15 and older in the Interlake Eastern Region of Manitoba who have experienced historic or recent sexual violence.

Prevention

SADI Program – Is an educational resource for schools designed and delivered to grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 students. Students learn about topics that align with the Manitoba Physical Education and Health Learning Outcomes including self-esteem, media literacy, internet safety, trauma, healthy relationships, and sexual violence.  Through partnering with schools, the SADI program enhances safety and respect in schools and promotes youth leadership in the prevention of violence with the goal to empower youth and reduce violence.

Girls Mentorship Program – During the school year Mentors from grades 9-12 receive training and discuss topics covering capacity building, leadership, conflict resolution, group facilitation, healthy boundaries discussion, diversity, and confidentiality. They are then paired with mentees in grade 5 and 6 to facilitate after school programming under the guidance of our SADI Youth Program Facilitators. We currently run the mentoring program in Sagkeeng and Powerview-Pine Falls.

Community Engagement

Reaching Out Program – Is the community engagement and public awareness aspect of SHCC. Through reaching out we connect with service providers, communities, and community members to promote awareness of the impact of violence, support for survivors, and responsibilities of communities and individual bystanders, and the availability of regional support services.
