This treatment center far exceeded my expectations. After his 3 month stay my husband left in the best shape he has ever been both mentally and physically. I thoroughly enjoy that the guys staying are allowed to have their phones and are encouraged to keep communication open with the loved ones at home. I like being able to see the changes in him as the days go on. The help they also offer to the loved ones is beyond amazing. They not only help the gentlemen but also to help loved ones, during their stay but also when their loved one gets back home. A Councillor is only an email/phone call away if i have questions. The family and couples weekend was super insightful and the Councillor that ran the program extremely knowledgeable about it all and was able to answer questions I didn't even know i had. This center is the only one I will recommend to those seeking treatment. Bonus- the views from this place are AMAZING! often times my husband would tell me about the whales they saw that day

After desperately trying to get a handle on my addiction and after 5 treatment centers over the last seven years, I was almost ready to give up. I reached out to a friend of mine for help, and an associate of his recommended Sunshine Coast Health Centre. My first day at the Centre I was participating in a group where the clients were saying goodbyes to their friends that were finishing the program in the upcoming week. I listened to a couple of the guys who have been there for 30 and 60 days make a claim that they feel they have grown so much during their stay that they genuinely believe they were leaving completely different people. After hearing this, I thought to myself "come on, how can 30 or 60 days actually cause such a drastic change in a person. What can really be so different about this place in relation to all the other places I've been to?". After 5 days at the centre I already began to experience huge new awareness's and changes in my perspective. I already started building strong connections with the clients at the centre whom today I refer to as my friends and brothers. Firstly, the Sunshine Coast Health center offers a very comfortable living environment, and it is on a beautiful and well-maintained piece of land with a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean. You will breathe clean air and see many gorgeous sunsets. You are offered excellent health-conscious meals, and the chefs are more than willing to work with your specific dietary restrictions, as they did with mine. You have a pool on site, a rec centre that you will visit weekly, and optional daily physical activities and outings. I view all of these as bonuses, even though they definitely contribute to a healthy state of mind, and an atmosphere that supported my healing and personal growth. Now to what I believe matters most. The Sunshine Coast Health Centre has a very large and qualified staff. What is so incredibly unique, is how easy it is to recognize that every single one of them genuinely care for their clients. They also offer a large and unique variety of therapies and treatment modalities. As well as one on one services. This gave me the opportunity to choose what really was working best for me and my recovery and make that my primary focus. At the Sunshine Health Centre you are a client but you are treated and respected as an equal. Unlike almost every other treatment centre, at SCHC you are given your Independence. You are guided to make healthy choices but they're not chosen for you. You're given every opportunity to work on yourself as well as to relax, take breaks, and enjoy yourself. Our job is to find a healthy balance between them. I know for myself and in my own life, that balance was/Is something that has been a constant struggle, and this opportunity to work on and to create that balance was exactly what I needed. I can write many paragraphs on how special this place is and how powerful my experience was. Instead I'll just tell you that I did in fact leave there feeling like a changed person, with many profound awareness's, and many tools that I have taken with me and continue to use on a daily basis. I gained a new love and appreciation for myself and for others. I definitely didn't go there to make friends, but I left there with a few that I truly value and that I am very grateful to have in my life today. I also left with purpose and meaning and a stronger desire to live. If you're considering treatment, and you genuinely want the help and support, spending some time at SCHC might be one of the best decisions you'll ever make. If you have any questions or want to hear more about the centre,. Feel free to get in touch with me anytime. @ shllomotion ????? Shlomo S

I checked into the Sunshine Coast Health Centre a lost soul, little desire to live, handcuffed to my addiction, feeling very unworthy, full of shame, guilt and fear. First day there I was assigned a Buddy that welcomed me, showed me the facility, and introduced me to the staff whom I later found genuinely positive and caring. This was when I was also introduced to the fellow clients of whom helped me to feel welcome and provided me with the first bit of hope. I was totally amazed at how quickly I fit in with, what I later learned, was a close knit Band of Brothers. All this an intricate part of a program strategically assembled to give me the best chance at a successful recovery both in body and mind. All that I had to do, and it was only up to me, was apply myself. I was the author to my own recovery. To me it was an added bonus to have a fitness evaluation with a follow up of a routine created to achieve improved physical health. The introduction to Group meditation, hypnotherapy and art expressions were very beneficial in ways I never would have expected. One of the greatest tools I will benefit from will be the Smart Recovery Program which is reviewed pretty much every day and is something I can and do use after being at the Centre. I am immensely grateful both to the staff and the Band of Brothers, (fellow clients). I leave feeling like I got my life back with meaning and purpose. A life in recovery that I will continue to stay connected to. Sunshine Coast Health Centre provides access to a weekly Alumni meeting with fellow clients facilitated by a qualified councilor. They also provide a number to call 24/7 in the event I need someone to talk to. It has been such a gift to get my life back along with acquiring the tools, knowledge and connections that will allow me to succeed in my recovery. I'm just so grateful!!!!

SCHC changed my life. I was able to land in a place that I didn’t have to fear anymore. Myself. They all showed me how but it was because I wanted to make these changes and start a journey to find true meaning and purpose in this life. This experience is only the beginning and SCHC shows one how to tap in to greater potential and happiness in life through acceptance and teaching me how to accept myself. The clients, my brothers are all amazing people. I have a new family and it is everyone associated with SCHC. I’m so grateful.

I've just completed the 30 Day program at SCHC and I can so with 100% honesty...it was the best decision and best choice I could have made. I took my time to research facilities, asked my therapist for advice and the advice of her peers on the best options available. SCHC was my first choice based on my own research and was also the most recommended facility by my therapist's group of peers. First and foremost, the staff, the therapists, the nurses, the kitchen staff, the cleaning staff...all of them are truly amazing people and professionals and made my time here very comfortable. Their approach of focusing on trauma, mental illness or PTSD as the issue and that addiction (of any sort) is the symptom is what really changed my life. I've learnt to confront and understand the "why". Learning about and discovering what got me here, understanding the root cause of my issues and allowed me to really tackle what was substance abuse "symptoms" The men that I've shared this experience with have come from all walks of life and all over the country and I've learnt as much from them as I have from the professional therapists. I honestly truly recommend SCHC to any man who is struggling to find himself, his authentic self. This is not the cheapest option...but its the best investment I've ever made...an investment in me...which benefits ME and as a result...my family and friends. A special thank you to Dr Howard, Davis Briscoe, Sara Klinkhamer, Geoff Thompson, Kye Taylor, Monique Harwood-Lynn, Sara Beauregard and the man that is the glue around here...Terryl Bertagnolli. Terryl, you are more amazing to us guys than you'll ever know. But as I said at the start of this review...they are all amazing human beings and great professionals on the team. THANK YOU. I OWE YOU EVERYTHING

I had an unbelievable transformation at this facility. I’ve struggled my entire life with mental health and addiction issues. The councillors and health practitioners helped me get to the root of these problems. They helped me figure out a plan to work towards long term recovery and healing. The facility is amazing, the staff are extremely talented and everyone is helpful and friendly. I plan to return in 6 months to continue working with the facility to help me reach my goals. I can’t say enough about how well this facility is run and their approach to healing the individual has helped me in 4 weeks of intensive work I was provided . This facility has a doctor, nurses, psychiatrist, councillors, kinesiologist, massage therapist, Hakomi practitioner, hypnotherapist, nutritionist, occupational therapist, personal trainers, chiropractor and more all on staff available daily for any treatments you may need.

I am just finishing my second week of a return stay to SCHC under the alumni program. The programming and support from the staff are very good, the facilities of very high quality and the location wonderful. I would recommend them to anyone struggling to deal with an addictive behaviour that is negatively affecting their life. The medical unit is very very professional and caring as well. The program also supports the clients in supporting each other -- there is a lot of wisdom on tap. If you are in trouble and on the fence,. don't wait, these folks can help.

So fortunate to have Sunshine Coast Health Centre and Georgia Strait Clinic available for comprehensive mental health treatment. Their approach is novel, well developed and backed by cutting edge research. I've struggled with mental health and addiction for 10 years and complex trauma for 37 years. I've been to 2 different treatment centres (Homewood and Edgewood). I have had stints of sobriety but never once did they acknowledge or address underlying issues or trauma. Despite finishing the programs, Edgewood and Homewood's shame based approaches proved very ineffective and harmful for me. Although this centre is privately funded, ownership/management/staff prioritize clients over profits. They are passionate about their contribution to mental health and have found their meaning and purpose in their work. The highly individualized program is incredibly cutting-edge when compared to other programs. In the first two weeks here, I had more individual 1 on 1 appointments than I had at Edgewood or Homewood for the entire duration of programming (10 weeks). Whether it be nutritionist consults, personal training, kinesiologist consults, massage therapy and a physician to manage my physical health or, psychotherapist, somatic psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, occupational therapy, psychiatric nurses and a psychiatrist to manage my mental health, the 1 on 1 care here is unparalleled. Outside the 1 on 1 bookings, the schedule gives a chance to connect with others in group therapy, PTSD therapy and various therapeutic group activities including hikes, golf, paddle boarding, canoeing, yoga, art therapy, clay field therapy, creative writing, fitness classes, and science based addiction based self management skillsets. Many of us have been to confrontational, intervention based treatment centres that operate primarily for profit and to tell you how doomed you are if you don't turn to religion. The approach here is the opposite approach, filled with compassion, acknowledgment, understanding and the desire to get to the underlying cause of your mental health symptomology rather than just deal with the symptom of addiction. They exercise high regard and respect for their clients and put the needs of clients over the demands of their clients funders. I didn't think going to sunshine coast health centre would be approved by my funders (CAF, DND and VAC) After six months of back and forth and a near death experience I finally said I will not go anywhere else other than Sunshine Coast Health Centre. Luckily I had a friend who supported me through that six months and I finally made it here. Although I didn't come here for luxury treatment, the privacy, beautiful location, amenities and great food is certainly nice. This is your place if you want more from your life and are ready to start your next chapter. I have witnessed incredible transformations in myself and others, we have created new healthy habits, understand why I was struggling and have planned a way forward. I have learned from myself, others and the facilitators - and am still learning every day I am here. The price here is certainly a consideration - take solace in the fact that 1 month of programming here can can easily compare to 3 months elsewhere. Its university for life/mental health with a full course load. Compared to other places I have been where I had to do chores to cut their costs and was left in rooms for hours with other clients to read decades old literature; here at sunshine coast, I have to decline activities and novel programming just so I can have time to my self to decompress in the sauna, swim in the pool, or have a hydro-massage. Every thing is facilitated, guided and mentored. They treat you like adults - you have your phone and laptop so you aren't isolated. I am able to practice the new mindset, approach and skills learned through the programming. Having it be all men's and all women's allows men and woman not get distracted by the inevitable, feel secure in their process and make brotherly and sisterly bonds in early recovery.
