Some folks say there's New York bagels are the best type of balgels
Howver, up across the border in Montreal, well let's just say... watch out New York the city that never sleeps cause you should n't sleep on a Montreal style bagel!
I went up into the St Viateur bagels store this passed weekend and got a half dozen bagels of different flavors. I got RoseMary and seasalt
I got plain
I got poppy
And I got muesli (the French word for oatmeal)
And WOW! This is a real tasty bagel, fired in a wood oven and with a slight sweet taste from the water it's boiled in being sweetened with a honey. Compared to a new york style they are a bit denser but still a nice softness and for me, a perfect breakfast item with a little butter, and toast it

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best bagel I've ever had. Get the Original, and they are hot and fresh out of the oven. The friendly staff member recommended the Liberte cream cheese to pair. Also very good. A must if you are in Montreal.

Location is open 24/7 but they don’t sell bagel sandwiches or coffees. You have to go to their cafe locations.
Make sure to get the plastic bags to store your leftover/extra bagels. Cash only in this location.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is consider “a Montreal landmark for bagels”. My favorite place for bagels and sesame bagels (original) always my choice. You have to prepare Cash for payment. They just sell plain bagels ( all kinds ), if you want bagel with cream cheese and smoke salmon, you have to pick what you want in their fridges and prepare the bagel by yourself. All my friends and family from around the world when they are in Montreal, there is no way they can leave without trying the bagel from St-Viateur.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I loved this exceptional bagel joint. They're very clear about their value and deliver it beautifully. The service was quick, bagel absolutely perfect (I had the classic salmon with cream cheese), and the melon slices for some freshness made for a lovely touch. If you're near Rue Mont Royal, go. If you're not, go.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place has amazinggg bagels. I drive from ottawa on a regular basis just to bring back a dozen bagels. If you’re lucky, you may be able to stumble on the warm freshly made ones. The sesame ones are a must but you should try out the different flavours, if you’re into a sweeter bagel, the blueberry ones are also very delicious.
